Will that hailstorm make our house sell better?
Comments (21)susanka, no feedback yet, but our realtor will let us know since she is really good that way. They were here for almost an hour. We went to the library and and when we got back we saw they were still here so we parked down the street about a block to wait until they left. They were a young couple with a baby. The market is supose to pick up after labor day so we may get more showings soon. I am sort of wondering if some people will pull their houses off the market until they get their roofs and other hail damage fixed? Since there were so many damaged, it will take a while to get a roofers and other repairmen to do it. I have having a hard time getting the glass company to come out and fix my broken skylight. There were so many broken windows that they are really backlogged. The lucky thing is that it doesn't leak though....See MorePolished chrome or polished nickel hardware?
Comments (12)Thanks gglks! (she and I are twins) It's true, I have pure white cabinetry (with no undertones of yellow, grey, blue, green, pink, etc. -- pure white), white calacatta countertops / backsplash and polished nickel pulls / knobs. I like chrome as well, but I love the warmth in the nickel (that yellow-y undertone). My kitchen is an interior room with the only windows in the breakfast portion at one end; those windows are north facing, so they never, ever receive direct sunlight. I LOVE a creamy kitchen but knew it would be ugly and drab in our no-natural-light kitchen. We tried sample after sample (after sample after sample), trying to find a creamy white and then a white white which would be bright and cheerful without looking forced and artificial. I'm one of those who feels blue in the winter, so I knew I needed as much brightness as possible. That's how we came to our white color. I have absolutely no doubt that our white in another kitchen would read "wrong," but in our kitchen it's perfect for our space and my mood! Even before I'd chosen the color of the cabinetry I knew I wanted polished nickel because of its warmth. I am a sucker for silver and have silver all over the house -- frames, bowls, trays, candlesticks, goblets, magnifying glasses, nutcrackers, objets -- I totally love it! I even love polishing it. But let's face it, not only could I not afford sterling hardware I'd be insane to do it -- it's just too much work! But I got that beautiful warmth from the nickel and I don't regret how hard it was to find polished nickel appliance pulls. Absolutely chrome would've worked in our kitchen as well, but the nickel is what we have and I'm grateful for it. Here's an overview of our kitchen: and a better view of the polished nickel, although you can see that the chrome would be practically indistinguishable from the nickel in this photo:...See MoreWould Polished Chrome or Brushed Nickel look better? Comments (21)"lynn2006: Ohh, good point - we'll have to consider what looks best with ss appliances! We're planning on doing our own trim for the Ikea cabinets, so I've done a bunch of googling on paint matches. I read that Simply White (which happens to be our trim color for our casings; I love it) is a match for Lindingo. While Ben Moore's Cloud White and Ralph Lauren's (potentially discontinued) Studio White WW09 are good matches for Adel White. The Adel White Ikea cover panels that we bought Do Not seem to match the doors!!! They are a brighter white and much glossier!! I don't know if we are the only ones with that problem, but we are returning them and plan to make our own (hopefully better matching, and cheaper!) cover panels instead. (This may have been more info than you wanted - sorry about that!)" Thank you for letting me know since I have not looked at Ikea yet and I had planned to go with the shaker door and drawer without any slab drawers and fell in love with the inset but Home depot is having a sale and I got a good price on fancier doors that I first thought were not my taste but they are growing on me when I saw the price and how much better storage I would have and they are close to the BM Cloud White color which is what I wanted. I may have to take a trip to Ikea and back to the local store with the inset cabinets and then price it all out. Home Depot is offering free trash can and recycling bin and organizers, free hardware (but I am having a touching time falling in love with the free hardware), free double silver ware drawer, free paint finish upgrade, free pull out shelves (but I really wanted drawers) and I am waiting for a price on the granite counters and the removal of the soffit, removal of the old cabinets and the tile installation. I love the Ikea organizers and my others choice is covering the soffit with trim since the bigger cabinets are pretty but I am not even 5 feet and have enough problems reaching selves right now and need a stool and ladder for the higher shelves. I am not sure which to vote for yet since I have not begun this process yet but I chose the chrome for my bathroom since I liked the bling....See MorePolishing the silver - do you?
Comments (32)I have sterling silver flatware that onky gets used a few times a year. I've never needed to polish it in the 25 years we've had it but it is stored in one of those boxes designed for sterling utensils. @3katz4me this statement made me chuckle "I was thinking about Downtown Abbey when I was doing this and how helpful it would be to have "staff" to polish the silver" When my paternal gandmother died, her grandkids were allowed to choose anything we wanted from her china cabinet. She was old school Italian with the plastic covered furniture and ornate formal dining room. One of the few things that I liked were her silver salt and pepper shakers. They were already somewhat tarnished, but they have been sitting in my china cabinet for 20+ years and look awful so I have never used them. My elderly but spry parents came over for Thanksgiving dinner. My father likes to keep busy so is always looking for a project. Having noticed the shakers while setting my table, I suggested to my father he take the salt and pepper shakers and polish them for me. He was happy to do it and already reported they are ready for me, and look nothing like they did before. So I guess I don't need a staff, just an elderly parent who needed a project.😀...See Morenorar_il
