Blizzards and a Rock and Roll Band in the Basement-Part Two
Comments (6)kaylah - I'm sorry, I just laughed so hard, I know it's not appropriate given the dire conditions in your area, but your first paragraph is priceless. Are you a writer? I love your opening sentence, almost "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times..." I see the pancakes, the basement, the dishes in the sink, the coffee cup full of water, the boat and the sign with the irony of the caption, great imagery. Oh, sorry, not an English class. It's just that your side stories are so much fun! Yes, to speak on gardening, a zapper would be great. I think you already spoke of it, it's called "lightning" and I love it after a good lightning storm, all those ions dancing around, the air refreshed and clean. I think all life needs it, plant and animal. Which provides me a segue to your boy's band "The Electric Mountain Boys" - great name! Do they have a logo yet? Perhaps a lightning bolt somewhere? Mountains of the moon, dancing ions and satellites??? Good luck on providing a new song list, I love "Hey Joe" but I can see how it could get old. I don't know what kind of music they play, but starting with Jimi Hendrix I think soul, R&B, blues, funk might work. There are tons of songs with the word "rain" in the title, I thought about the ones I like and came up with this short list: how about -'I Can't Stand the Rain' perhaps best and most famously performed by the incomparable, soulful Ann Peebles and also well done by Lowell George of Little Feat fame. 'Feels Like Rain' done by Buddy Guy with Bonnie Raitt, 'Let it Rain' by Eric Clapton (perhaps a sentiment not appreciated right now), 'Wicked Rain' by Los Lobos (perhaps a more appropriate sentiment) and weirdly, 'Rain Rain Rain' by Roxy Music (I know, Roxy Music, but really very cool, give it a listen) And if your rockers really want to go all out, how about 'Love, Reign O'er Me' by The Who? They won't even have to simulate the thunder like The Who did, they'll just pick up the thunder noise outside. Just be prepared to tolerate loud Roger Daltry-like screams and pounding drum beats with that one. Someone will have to reproduce the violin track though (synthesizer anyone?) That song still gives me goosebumps. (Did I just date myself???)...See MoreAfter the Blizzard
Comments (8)That is truly beautiful. And so tranquil. The dining area looks inviting with it's frosty tablecolth. I'm afraid I would have to take my juice and muffin out there despite the cold. We had snow the last two days, too. I just love the way it transforms the landscape. And the smell of the earth and plants is heavenly, isn't it? I went for a hike up to the top of our property and could hardly make myself come back inside. Every season brings beauty. Enjoy your winter wonderland and your knitting! Comments (46)Thanks, Rhizo! I sometimes feel like the King of Siam's kids who think snow is a made up thing in books (though I have seen glaciated snow in the forest, and actual glaciers). I read the posts y'all make about it and really don't understand what they mean. I just know it's dangerous and cold, so I'm glad when everybody reports in safe. I'm in Southern California, a few miles inland. We get hail every few years (which sometimes gets misidentified as snow by people who've never seen tiny hail), but not snow or any other non-rain/hail precipitation. There are mountains not that far away where it does snow, but not when I'm there (I was even in Germany in December but no snow). The closest I've been is high dessert where there were a few passing flakes. Few as in, oh, look, there's one!...See MoreBlizzard update
Comments (5)Jay, Thanks for the update. All the cattle news is just so distressing. Our friends who were stranded near Leoti, KS, during the blizzard are back home now and posted a sad photo of dead cattle heaped up at what appeared to be a cattle feed lot. She said her dad lost cattle at his place near Leoti, but she didn't say how many head. How awful for the ranchers, and of course, for the cattle themselves. I cannot believe your snow isn't gone yet. Oh well, as it melts at least it will provide some moisture for the soil. I hope you get to plant soon. I'd be going crazy if my plants weren't in the ground yet. We are fairly dry down here overall, having been missed by most of the rain over the last couple of months (and all the snow has missed us, though I am not complaining). Between all the flooding to our northeast and the snow and blizzard to our northwest, we are just dull and boring and nothing is happening here. I'm okay with that. Dawn...See Moredigit (ID/WA, border)
