Picea omorika 'Pendula Bruns' vs. Picea omorika 'Kuck'
Comments (2)Picea omorika 'Pendula Bruns' is generally considered one of the most attractive/coveted conifers in a collection. It grows upright, 12-18" a year and the branches weep downward strongly. Another key trait is that often specimens form odd angles here and there so that the tree has 'kinks' and bends in it as it grows skyward. It has the silver, blue and green colors Serbian spruce are loved for as well. I don't have any information about Kuck's weeping. -Will...See MoreHow close to walkway can Picea omorika 'Pendula Bruns' be planted
Comments (21)Thanks for all the great ideas! I'll be taking the easy way out by simply planting the 'Pendula Bruns' there now, knowing it may eventually need to be moved. I was SOO excited to find it Friday at a very nice nursery in Modesto that we had never been to. Will be going back, only waiting for one of their coupon sales. There are three Pinus parviflora 'Hagoromo'...one of which will eventually be mine. It is so rare to find such nice plants so close to home. Pinus parviflora 'Hagoromo', at nursery: Barbara...See MoreWill Picea omorika 'Gotelli Weeping' form a leader?
Comments (2)Yes, it should. Often upright conifers are taken as 'side branches' from the mother tree, so when it is grafted, sometimes they still think they are a 'branch'. Eventually, with proper staking, it will get the idea and head upright on it's own. I staked mine for two years but last year it finally showed clear intent to head straight up and I removed all stakes/training. Goodluck! :) -Will...See MorePicea omorika Pendula
Comments (10)Ken, I'm very sorry to disturb your party, but the one at your pic isn't the 'Pendula' but is the 'Gotelli Weeping'. It was the Watnong Nursery who sold this one under the wrong name. The true 'Pendula' does have a much slender habit and will never make a straight leader... This is the true one: Picea omorika 'Pendula' Will (Whaas), also your's insn't a 'Pendula', It's a Picea omorika 'Bruns'. The characteristic of this one is it's more silvery blue needle colour....See MoreUser
