Comments (10)If it were mine, I would start by rinsing the old soil off the roots gently with a hose. Then, re-pot in a smaller pot that would accommodate the root ball and about 1/2" or so more. So a relatively small pot, unglazed clay is cheap, unfussy and definitely recommended. If you can get perlite and mix it 50/50 with potting soil, that will do. I prefer to use a potting medium that is mostly grit, but many people have success with this mix. When you expose the roots, cut off any black or soft (indicating rot) parts before re-potting. Pot up & use a skewer or chopstick to gently push the potting medium around the roots, do not water in. Set the pot in a bright but shaded spot outside if you can. Do not water until you see new growth, then to water, you can either stick a chopstick or pencil into the soil, if it comes out damp, do not water. Alternatively, you can lift the pot, if it feels heavy, (after you water for the first time, note the weight of the pot) don't water, if it feels ridiculously light, go ahead and water. Gradually acclimate to full sun. If indeed sedum adolphii firestorm, it will take on really pretty shades of pink, red and or orange. If leaves fall off, leave them in the pot, they will grow new plants =D...See MorePlease help identify my new succulents!
Comments (8)Garrett22, I noticed how stressed the plants looked. The lady who sold them to me has a home nursery and has over 500 plants in her backyard. Most of her succulents looked very stressed, but from my research I am going to do my best to salvage them. I am going to cut the tops and replant/reroot these. There are brown dried patches on the leaves as well and the stems are pretty dry and woody. I hope i can save them!! If anyone has anymore feedback or tips I would love them!...See MoreFirst succulent and I need lots of help!
Comments (7)Hi. Basics -SOIL: combine half pumice (or perlite) and half potting soil. You can add compost but just a bit. -POT: Should have a drainage hole. Terra Cota is best as it dries faster-a safeguard from drowning plants. -LIGHT: Echeverias need bright sun. West or South facing is OK so long as they are slowly adjusted to take as much. Too low a light will lead to stretching and eventual death. And Echeverias are notorious for this and need LOTS of sin. -WATER: Only when approaching dryness. Mine are watered every 7 days, smaller potted ones every 3 days. But Im in the tropics with average 30 degree Celsius weather. When you repot, dont water immediately. Wait 2 days as repotting causes wounds on roots. When these are watered right away, they will rot. Wait for wounds to harden for 2 days then water....See Morebella_g1013
