Comments (5)Tova, here's the recipe I used for the toner, from Rodale's Illustrated Encyclopedia of Herbs. "Start with either apple cider vinegar or white wine vinegar. Add 1 cup of petals or leaves for each pint of vinegar and place on a sunny windowsill in a tightly sealed glass bottle. let the mixture steep for two or three weeks, shaking it vigorously every day. Strain and rebottle. If you like a more diluted lotion, add water." Naturally, you will want the plants you use to be clean and free of any pesticide. Make sure your containers are sterilized, like you do for canning or making jam. I used the lemon balm because it's supposed to be good for wrinkles, and calenula is good for oily skin, and is a soothing and healing herb. This is a really simple recipe, so it's one that you can try and have some fun with. Connie...See MoreAny new summer recipes to share?
Comments (29)Oh I love green bells too. I use both in my pasta sauce. Funny, but I rarely use the yellow, orange or purples. I freeze both the green and red, but I don't roast them. Wash and core and when using for chopping, I leave them slightly frozen, so easy to chop up. Seems like my red bells are coming in earlier this year, but we bought actual red pepper plants (vs letting greens turn red) and they are coming in with the green bells. One of my favorite soup recipes is chicken corn chowder - with red peppers. YUM! So, my question is - could I prepare red bell peppers like you did the poblano? tina...See MoreAny hot roll recipes you want to share?
Comments (5)oh YEAH - I have made sol's honey rolls several times and last Christmas, I got a whisper from my son asking me to save a couple - everyone was gobbling them up. LOL. I will be making these again for Thanksgiving. And I am so baking challenged - but these are impressive! I make them in 9 inch round cake pans - one in the center and the others surrounding. Sol's Honey Rolls 1 cup milk 1/2 cup honey 1/2 cup butter [1 stick] 2 teaspoons salt 1-2 tablespoons granulated sugar* 2 pkges. dry yeast 1/2 cup warm water [110º-115ºF] 2 large eggs, lightly beaten 6 - 6 1/2 cups All Purpose flour Heat the milk, add butter and salt. Set aside while butter melts. Stir in the honey. In another bowl, combine the warm water, yeast and sugar. Let it sit until yeast is completely dissolved, about 6-7 minutes. Combine milk mixture with yeast mixture. And stir in the beaten eggs. Beat in 4 cups flour. Add enough remaining flour to make a soft, but not sticky dough. Place dough in greased bowl, turning to coat both sides. Cover and allow dough to rise 1 hour. Punch dough down, and allow to rise another hour. Punch down again, and shape dough into rolls. Let it rise again 45 minutes to an hour or until doubled in volume. Preheat your oven to 375ºF and bake rolls for 25 minutes or until a deep golden brown. For a very soft crust, brush rolls with melted butter as soon as they come out of the oven. Note (from sol): You could omit the sugar from this recipe altogether. I sometimes use about a teaspoon of the honey called for in the recipe to feed the yeast instead of the sugar....See MoreTried any New recipes lately?
Comments (55)There are lots of sources for non-alcoholic substitutions, eld. AA has some, I think. My DH has 8 years sober and we were told at his rehab that we shouldn't count on the alcohol cooking off. Sometimes I have added grape juice (white or purple) and sometimes I just add more of the broth or liquid called for in the recipe. I still miss the red wine in recipes though and sherry in seafood dishes. Every now and then, I have fixed two separate recipes-with and without! Ha. thespruceeats gourmetsleuth I like the idea of adding a little vinegar to cut the sweetness of the grape juice when substituting for red wine....See More🌱 ~ 🌿 ~ 🍅
