I like that style, too. I'm thinking they used a curling wand (different than a regular curling iron), or a flat iron. I've tried to get this look, but failed miserably!

No rollers and that's not what I would use for this look. I'd use a curling iron. What size have you been using? I'd use a 1.5" barrel. Anything smaller and you're going to end up with too much curl. You can use it the traditional way or wrap the hair around the barrel. Here's two videos showing what I mean. You'll want to separate it out when done and pull on any areas that get too curly. Make sure to keep the ones at your face rotating away and do alternate directions occasionally as you go around the head.

No, I don't curl my hair and I don't own a roller, LOL! Thankfully I have naturally wavy hair and for me a curling iron is to pull curl out of my bangs.

But what Shee says - that is how to get the look. Depending on your hair type, how thin/thick it is, if you have any wave, etc. you probably want to use some product to help hold the set after curling.

I thought the success of a style like this is your hair's ability to 'hold a curl' once curled... I've had friends whose hair straightens pretty quickly after being curled...

I'm thinking you have to use rollers to get body first. Then when dry you use the hair wand.

Depending on your type of hair, you would have to use hair spray to keep it's shape.

This is one of those styles that should really be effortless because it looks that way. But in reality, high maintenance.

I have naturally wavy hair but can really get it to curl if I spritz it with product and put it up in a twist while it's still damp. When I take it down a few hours later, I'm much more curly than I am ordinarily ...

I have no clue which Kardashian that is (those eyelashes though! -- GAH, and not in a good way!), but I too wonder how best to get that look where it's straighter on top and curled at the bottom. I haven't used hot rollers in years, but do occasionally use a large-barrel curling iron to create controlled movement after blowing my hair out. Seems that once I do blow out my hair, it doesn't want to hold the curl for long. If I go with "twist curls" as in the photo above though, they last practically forever.

EDIT: I probably shouldn't criticize her lashes. They aren't any more overblown than my ginormous Texas hair!

It's blow dried with a large, round, brush to get it smooth and full .A large, barreled curling iron creates the waves.

I think it was done with one of those tapered wands. There are tons of YouTube videos showing how it's done, some quite good.

After watching some videos I bought a wand, not an expensive one, to try out. It comes with a little partial glove so you don't burn your fingers. Try one and you'll instantly know why. I was all thumbs with the glove and without it you will burn your fingers. Besides that, I quickly realized the look was too young for me. I probably have no business with shoulder length hair in the first place, but that's another topic.

First of all, it's a very blunt cut. Second, it's a controlled beach wave - meaning it's not tousled.

Blow dry straight with some volumizer, spiral wrap sections of hair around a large curling
iron barrel (you can use a flat iron too). Curl each section of hair in an opposite direction.

Good grief! That is exactly the way I've been wearing my hair most every day for the past 2 years since I had it shortened. And believe me, I didn't copy her, as I avoid everything Kardashian (shudder! ). Same length and same high, right-sided part. Except my hair isn't dyed blond, it's my natural medium brown . . . with blond highlights (LOL). I use hot rollers in it, finger comb it out and then smooth the top and sides a bit with a comb. BTW, it only looks that perfect for about 5 minutes, until I start cleaning or whatever (LOL).

I have very long, thick, straight hair. I do large sections of hair with a large barrel curling iron, and pin each curl until cool.

I've used a styling *brush* when doing a reverse, rather than a forward style~think Lisa Rinna. After washing my hair I use a spray styling gel(i like Pantene), blow dry, but leaving *slightly* damp. You will need to hold the styler in place(vertically)doing a section of hair until it's completely dry. The trick is the reverse roll. I find it's a more time consuming style.

I need to add that I never considered this an actual hair "style". Unlike my 21-y/o DD who styles her hair so easily and beautifully a hundred different ways all the time, I was sadly born without that creative hair gene. So, for me, it's either the above (seriously) very simple to do hair, or scraped back in a ponytail (LOL).

I've lost 30 pounds since this picture was taken last summer, so I'm much cuter. LOL!!! As you can see, I have thick, fine, hair. And waves. I hate the waves because no matter where I trim the ends of my hair, they always end up straight. No styling in the picture though. Just blown dry.

The only way I can keep my hair curled is to put hair spray on it as soon as I use the curling iron. The curling iron I have is maybe an inch in diameter?

But I have no clue how to use any of the other curling irons or spirals you all suggested, plus I have two left hands. I do think the top is blown out with a round brush.

Here's a funny story. In my younger days I had a middle part. When I decided to part my hair on the side, my DH said "do NOT part it on the right side because that's how Hitler parted his hair." lol It's always been parted on the left side ever since.

Violet, I used to have the messy short bob. With my thick, wavy hair, it was almost effortless. Alot depends on the hair type and the product used.

I saw the same thing ( TV backstage fashion show peek ) The stylists blow dried the hair with a large round brush until nearly dry and then used a large curling iron. Then it was pinned to the head in the curled shape until it was fully cool. That was important to let it cool completely in that tight curl. I've seen this done with longer hair with large rollers and a parlor dryer ( don't know what they're called- part of the chair) I think the weight of the long hair pulls the top part straight and the lower parts stay curled. I think you need extra time each day to get this style if you were doing it by yourself.

That's exactly how I do mine, kitty (except I don't use a brush when drying). And yep, I've wasted 20 minutes every morning for the last 30 years doing it :o

The K girls have tons of stylists and use many many extensions which come with curls. Check this technique, it's simple and works and holds the curl for a few days.

I have seen YouTube videos of women curling their hair with a flatiron by clamping on it it a certain way and pulling the whole length segment of hair through the iron kind of backwards. I am dyslexic, so there is no way I could watch that and then actually do it myself, and unfortunately I can't even process it mentally well enough to tell you in words. Just google "curl long hair flat iron."

I use an instyler. Best invention ever!

I agree with yaya - whoever that is, she has extensions -which are probably synthetic and permanently waved like that. You can tell them where the hair is blonder and has a slightly different sheen.

There is an instyler max that the barrel switches both ways making it very easy to use. I also straighten my hair with it. I use morracan argan oil when styling it.

I admire you all who can do the Instyler. I would make a huge, tangled mess if I did it. lol. However, I found this video earlier today and I finally figured out how to do the waves the easy way. This is a short video showing three different types of curls. The last one is what I'm going to do.

All I need is a thinner curling iron and use smaller pieces of hair. I've always done a twist (wave) on each side of my face anyway, but it made bigger curls that fell out sooner. I noticed it's also how you take the hair off the iron.
