Gosh, Marilyn, interesting question. I just found a plastic bag of brush rollers and pink stick pins in the linen closet last week, I have no idea how many years they have been in the house. I thought I was looking at a little bit of 'hair history', but I guess I might have been wrong. It will be interesting to read what folks have to say about this question. Just goes to show that we all see the world through our own experiences.

My years of rollers ended with high school way back in the early 70's. I switched to hot rollers in the morning and did that for a few years but then my hair got too long so it was just a wash and air-dry for me. Now, I wash my hair every morning in the shower and blow it dry with a hair dryer and a round bursh.

From your question I guess they still sell rollers and I guess people still use them. This will be interesting to watch and learn. Thanks for this question, Marilyn.

I haven't done rollers since the early 70's when I was in high school. You couldn't pay me to sleep in them!

Wash and air dry hair, with the occasional touch with a curling iron.

Blessed in my old age to still have to a full head of naturally curly hair, never needed a perm or rollers.

No rollers for decades.
Less than 10 minutes with a curling iron has me "presentable".

i keep my hair short and use a curling iron when i wash it and blow it dry. when i think i might want to let it grow out a little i set it on brush rollers with the pink picks. pink picks are very hard to find, though. i have been looking for them for the past two years, to no avail. lol ;)

I have some velcro rollers here but I've not used them for years.....but the kittens do!! They love to bat them around, I think because they stick to the furniture! LOL!!

I also have electric rollers but again, haven't used them for a very long time. Another that uses either a flat iron or a curling iron, depending on my mood.

I used to use hairpins and do the pin curl thing for years until I started to perm. Then it was one perm after another for a very long time. After I retired and didn't have to worry what I looked like (just kidding), I found these foam cloth rollers that have a wire through them and you roll a piece of hair around them, then bend the ends towards each other until it forms a hold. Sort of like when Mom's used to set there little girl's hair in rags. You can sleep on these rollers without a problem. Only drawback is that the wires eventually poke out of the cloth tip at the ends. A set cost $11.

Now, my hair is cut chin length and I no longer do the curly look; so haven't used them in awhile.

I keep my hair very short. It usually stands up on the top, and when it gets longer, I curl it with the smallest curling iron.

I like to curl it to give it some height. If I just dried it, it would lie flat like a boy.

I've been toying with the idea of growing my hair longer....to a blunt cut, but I know it would drag down my face. It would be easier to keep, I'll bet though.

I use hot rollers only - on Sunday morning, before church - otherwise, it's straight as a string and pulled back in a pony tail. It's grown just past my middle back, so hot rollers really don't do much except smooth out the frizzies.

Wash and blow dry. If I need a haircut (like now) I have to use a curling brush on it, otherwise nothing else. I bet I have some of those brush rollers around here and I know I have the heat rollers under the sink in our bathroom. Need to clean out!

Quite short, just wash and air dry. No fuss.

I like my old pink rollers that have a top that clamps on I've only seen big ones in the stores these are small ones. I have brush ones but dont like them and I use bobbi pins.
My hair is short and a mess rsight now I gave myself a perm a couple of weeks ago to get some body and it is frizzi right now. If I set it right away after a shampoo it come out nice.

Remember the BOBBI home perms? ages ago.

My big problem is my hair grows fast and I have that scalp line of about 1/2 inch of scalp/white hair that I have to cover I do have a color stick/crayon that I can rub on . I like my brown hair but it comes with a price.

Bliss would be to have just a tiny bit of natural curl to my broom-stick straight hair; but rollers...not for ages, altho there is a bag of them under a bathroom sink. Good haircuts, not always an easy find, and a curling iron or even a flat iron works miracles for a wash and blow dry cut.

Naturally curly hair, which I hate but I never have to perm or use rollers. Just wash & air dry.

Sue, it looks like we're in the minority here. I use the foam rollers also. Will have to see if they still sell bobbi pins anymore.

I decided a LONG time ago that it was just a huge waste
of time to try to get my hair to do something it didn't want to do (ie.. curl! lol) Perms, hot rollers, curling irons.... waste of time. Even if I could get it to curl, it wouldn't last but an hour or so. So, I enjoy the ease of my hair. straight... well, when I had it, that is! lol

I've done everything mentioned here over the years. My mom used to set my hair in rags. I walked around looking like Topsy and when it was unwound I looked like a frizzball. Then came the Bobbi and Tonette home perms, thanks to Mom who seemed to have wanted a curly-haired child instead of me. Again, looked like I'd stuck my finger in the electric socket.

In high school I rolled my hair in rollers every night. How did I stand it? Later came teasing and spraying. After that it was electric rollers. They worked okay.

Now I wash it and blow it out around a brush. I also use styling gel to give it some staying power. I think coloring it has also added texture, as well as the gray under the color! It still takes too long to style, as I have nearly shoulder length hair and lots of it. It is pretty straight.

Oh I also remember pincurls and something called Spoolies!

I'm certainly in the minority here! I still use rollers--the velcro ones. I've slept in rollers for so many years that I don't even notice them. I have electric curlers, but the curl doesn't hold with them. I use a curling iron when necessary.

shampoo and roller brush. It actually takes only about five minutes, but I hate doing it. I do get perms as my top hair is so thin, which doesn't help it, I know.

Blow dry and then with curling brush. I have my hair colored and it's really coarse and thick, with a lot of body but not really curly. Curls too quickly to use a curling iron. I could actually get by without the curling brush but I'd have to shampoo more often. Now it's 2 times a week and that is plenty. All my daughters do the daily shampoo thing. That's as bad as shaving your legs every day....don't do that either.

Wash my hair every morning and use a big round brush as I dry it. Have fine hair that looks bad the 2nd day.

Never use product on it because it weighs my hair down and takes away the shine of clean hair. It takes an extra 30 minutes every day and sometimes more. In the summer the humidity is fierce and hair gets wavy and I look like I didn't do a thing. I don't know what I'd do if I didn't have ears.

it was fun for awhile after i got my chemo curly hair, but for the most part it's gone...

so special times just blow dry with a curling brush(metal)...if it's "formal" curling iron...

Nothing. I'm lucky that I can just run a brush or comb through it and it's good to go. Even when getting a haircut, the hairdresser remarks how my hair just lays in place just so. It's halfway between straight and frizzy.

dedtired, I think we had twin moms. My mom used to do our hair in rags, too. Every Saturday night so we'd look presentable for church on Sunday. And we got a Tonette every year just before school started. I remember the Tonette's came with paper dolls.

My hair doesn't do anything but hang there. It is fine in texture but I have a TON of hair. I just wash it and go. No blow drying (unless I'm getting dressed up; like twice a year) and no curling iron. My hair just does what it does.

My mom tried to get it to stay in rollers and it wouldn't. I guess my hair was stubborn all my life!

Wash and usually tie back. If I want to wear it down, I run a straightener over it. I have long straight hair, but it's started getting frizzy (not curly, ugly frizz) as I get older so I have to smooth it out to wear it down. I typically never spend more more than 5 minutes on my hair ever, unless I'm going to a special event like a wedding.

Rollers???? I'm surprised to see that anybody still does this. I found my pink spongy rollers in a bottom drawer about 5 years ago and threw them out.

Remember when ladies would go to the store with their hair in rollers and covered by a scarf? My mom wouldn't, though. She cleaned up to go to the store.

I use a curling iron. Not well, though, you'd say if you could see me now :(

Does anyone remember when hair salons got rid of those big hair dryers for women with rollers in their hair?
It has to be at least 20 years.

Do they still sell bobby pins? I use a curling iron. I have enough trouble sleeping. Can't imagine what it would be like to sleep in rollers anymore. I put in my time with those. And Patti, my mom did the rag thing, too. I guess they wanted us to look like Shirley Temple.

Oh yeah, they still sell bobby pins. I buy them for doing fancy up-do's. I don't think there is a better product out there for pinning hair.

I have short straight hair so I use gel and 5 green plastic
rollers with big bobbi pins on top. (I shampoo in the evening)
In the morning I use a curling iron for the sides and bangs.

I've never had a perm in my life. I used to have relatively straight hair which I want. The older I get , the curlier it is especially in the summer. I hate curls. If I didn't blow dry and use an iron, I'd look like Shirley Temple. I also use a straightening spray- on product which keeps it pretty straight.

I too have a good amount of fine hair and although I used to go through all those rolling, pinning, perms . . . one day I just decided to get it cut and see what happened. I found out I had just enough wave/curl to not look so bad! What a relief. I can wash and semi dry and be gone. In the heat and humidity here anything I would try to do would be gone a minute after I walk out the door.

It's nice that the older you get the less you feel you need to impress anyone with your looks. Not that I don't try to look my best when I go out among humans, but I just don't feel the need to make myself miserable doing it. I no longer suffer wearing good looking shoes either. Those orthopedic shoes are really comfortable!

Yes, I do remember when I wouldn't be caught dead making a quick run to the store in curlers.

Haven't used rollers or a curling iron in years. My hair is straight and after spending forever curling it, it would come out and my hair would be flat again. Not worth the effort.

My dd has naturally curly hair, she hates it and flat irons her hair. I love her curly hair. She can wash and it's just beautiful (sometimes gets too BIG) but mostly it's beautiful and I don't know why she wants it flat. I would have killed for her hair when I was younger.

My hair is fine, thin, and tends to frizz. I can use some gel and a blow dryer and get it presentable, but if I want to look good, I need rollers.

I use the plastic ones that they used to call "magnetic," fastened with pins like bobby pins but bigger. I don't sleep in them, I just use them in the daytime before I go out.

My hair dresser does offer a "senior wash and set," and she does have the big hair dryer like the old days. I haven't availed myself of that service yet, but the day may be coming!

Haven't found myself able to qualify as a "lady" ...

... and, as for the hair, there's not much left except a sort of more-or-less gray fringe around the edges: not hardly enough to roll, unless I neglect getting a haircut for a while ... and it seems to sort of roll, by itself.

About all of the care that it gets is a bit of a wash, now and then (with a - non-coloured - rinse thrown in, of course).

After years with curly hair, cheers for the straightening iron!

I have thick, coarse hair that used to make strangers on the street stop to compliment me, but now is getting frizzy. I let my hair air dry and use a straightening iron.
