Mac Help: How Do I Get Rid of Annoying Ads?

Especially this huge ad right at the top of my Yahoo home page? It is so annoying. Not only does it take up almost half the screen, but it moves, so it's particularly annoying. then there are the ads on each side of the screen. I suspect that soon we'll have one inch of screen devoted to our own use and everything else will be ads.

In the meantime, does anyone know if it's possible to get rid of the huge, "in-your-face" ad on Yahoo? I'll tell you, I keep mental notes to NOT do business with the companies that pay for that space!

I have a MacBook Pro and I use AdBlock. I think there is a free version, but I did pay either $15 or $25, something like that for it. I just checked and I have successfully blocked over 150,000 ads!! It is totally worth it to me.

Dyna-Gro packages cold-pressed neem oil. In a 1 quart spritzer bottle, mix: 1 pint very hot water 1 teaspoon neem oil (cold-pressed or virgin oil only - Dyna-Gro packages a very good product) 4 drops Murphy's oil soap (or dishsoap) Shake well and add 1 pint of 70% isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol. Spritz Shake frequently while spritzing. Be sure to cover the entire plant. Don't spray in full sun. A little more Murphy's is ok, but unnecessary if using the isopropyl. Does anyone else INJECT Round-Up? I've found it useful for poison ivy that is interwoven in our hedges. I get a cattle syringe and needle (I got mine at Tractor Supply) and I fill it with Round-Up and I inject a little bit directly into the stem. Poison Ivy in particular has that "woody" stem, and this way I'm assured that I actually got some of the "tactical nukes" (LOL -- love that term!) inside the plant so that it can carry the "radiation" back to the "mother ship" (roots). I haven't done a complete inspection yet, but so far I haven't noticed any new PI this year in the areas I treated last year. If anyone else is going to try this, use a SENSITIVE hand at this -- if you try to inject a whole bunch into a stem, the excess will either squirt out where you're injecting it in (all over you PLUS the plants that you're trying NOT to hit) or else the stem will burst under the pressure and the excess will spray out at random (all over you PLUS the plants that you're trying NOT to hit). Since you're putting this directly into the plant's "veins", it really doesn't take very much at all. Think of how a single drop or bit of errant misting on a leaf can kill an entire plant and you get an idea of how very little of this stuff you have to get inside the stem in order for it to be effective.

she needs to go into her email settings on her actual email client and make sure all the spam filters are turned on and set pretty high. When she deletes any junk mail do not simply hit delete, hit the junk mail button instead so that the spam program in her email client learns what is spam/junk. That is a common mistake many people make they just hit delete, always send it to junk, plus there is an option to block any incoming mail from a sender she can do that also but it won't help that much since they have so many addresses but worth a go. She can also contact charter her provider to let them know she is getting a lot of spam. And a good preventative measure is to never ever use your primary email address for anything other than email, to do anything else get a free email address from hotmail or yahoo or gmail and use that email address only when doing anything online, ordering, filling in forms, surveys, etc. That way any junk goes to the free account and her main email address stays clear. However I happen to have Verizon as my provider and I have never ever once used that email address, never given it to anyone, I simply do not use it at all and when I go check it on occassion I have hundreds of spam all from foreign countries rarely in English. I have no idea why, could be someone got into Verizon's data and got them some how, I know I never used the thing.

A story about Angie's List. I got a freebie trial for a year when they were new to this area. So I was heading out of town, afternoon before got an oil change (quickie place, not dealer). They bunged up the transmission (forget details now but would have stopped me from making that trip). Reimbursed my money and were trying to get me to head to their 'transmission guy'. No way! A girl customer who overheard that fiasco gave me her ex BFs card, said if he couldn't help me he had friends who could. He did body work but sent me to his friend. Sweetest, kindest mechanic I've ever met. Got there at closing time on Friday evening. Still, he stayed, fixed it, and wasn't going to charge me. (I gave him money anyway.) I also gave him highest rec on Angie's List. I bumped into him a few months later. He's very laid back so didn't complain, but the poor guy had since been flooded with snail mail solicitations from AL to join and IIRC he said their fees for business owners were astronomical. He was appreciative of the review, but he was small & just starting out then so had to watch every penny. But we were both kind of surprised they'd solicit business owners that way, seems that would create bias to some extent? I didn't renew when my freebie subscription ran out, but to this day they've not stopped soliciting heavily, even after multiple requests from me to unsubscribe from their list. Aside from having "paid" members in the business community, it's pretty annoying the way they hound people incessantly, a total turn off imho.

Are you using safari browser? If so go to the link and download the version of ad block plus for safari to your browser. It's totally free, if something ask for money do not do that, the real adblock plus has always been free. There's many imposters and sound alike programs. The link below is the real thing. There's an option to contribute.

I use adblock plus on my mac in Firefox and I don't see any ads in Yahoo. When GW switched to Houzz, someone posted about adding "Styles" to make the page appear more like the old GW. I added something called Morning Glory. One of the benefits is it is blocking out all the new ads that Houzz is putting on the sidebar. I looked at GW in Safari where I don't have "Styles" added and the ads made me crazy. I checked on Firefox by turning off the "Style" and could see all the ads for Houzz. I couldn't get adblocker to block them. So I simply turned the Morning Glories back on.

Oh, and I donate every year to AdblockerPlus because I appreciate it so much!

Oh yes if you can use Firefox on it then definitely you can use the version for that instead.
