Mac Help: How Do I Get Rid of Annoying Ads?

Especially this huge ad right at the top of my Yahoo home page? It is so annoying. Not only does it take up almost half the screen, but it moves, so it's particularly annoying. then there are the ads on each side of the screen. I suspect that soon we'll have one inch of screen devoted to our own use and everything else will be ads.

In the meantime, does anyone know if it's possible to get rid of the huge, "in-your-face" ad on Yahoo? I'll tell you, I keep mental notes to NOT do business with the companies that pay for that space!

I have a MacBook Pro and I use AdBlock. I think there is a free version, but I did pay either $15 or $25, something like that for it. I just checked and I have successfully blocked over 150,000 ads!! It is totally worth it to me.

I am sorry you take offense summer fashion -- I was just trying to point out that there are other places for this rare rose. As the grower of over 600 roses, many of which are rare, I try to do my part to keep some of these in commerce, and have given cuttings to many different growers. My initial question was simply directed at trying to figure out if I had the rose that was supposedly "the last one," and if I did have it, to get it out there to some distributers. FYI -- Cliff is the proprieter of Eurodesert Roses and he specializes in distributing rare roses. And to answer your question about Gregg -- no I do not think he would necessarily have driven down and gotten another one -- he has his hands full keeping all the roses already in his 4000 rose collection. I would be shocked if he were adding more, even if he happens to lose one. As for you complaint about "hi-jacking", I am sorry that you posted your Kudzu question on the rose board. Maybe you should have put it on the appropriate forum in the first place, rather than worrying about someone changing the subject of your post back to the subject of the board. A story about Angie's List. I got a freebie trial for a year when they were new to this area. So I was heading out of town, afternoon before got an oil change (quickie place, not dealer). They bunged up the transmission (forget details now but would have stopped me from making that trip). Reimbursed my money and were trying to get me to head to their 'transmission guy'. No way! A girl customer who overheard that fiasco gave me her ex BFs card, said if he couldn't help me he had friends who could. He did body work but sent me to his friend. Sweetest, kindest mechanic I've ever met. Got there at closing time on Friday evening. Still, he stayed, fixed it, and wasn't going to charge me. (I gave him money anyway.) I also gave him highest rec on Angie's List. I bumped into him a few months later. He's very laid back so didn't complain, but the poor guy had since been flooded with snail mail solicitations from AL to join and IIRC he said their fees for business owners were astronomical. He was appreciative of the review, but he was small & just starting out then so had to watch every penny. But we were both kind of surprised they'd solicit business owners that way, seems that would create bias to some extent? I didn't renew when my freebie subscription ran out, but to this day they've not stopped soliciting heavily, even after multiple requests from me to unsubscribe from their list. Aside from having "paid" members in the business community, it's pretty annoying the way they hound people incessantly, a total turn off imho.

Get AdBlockPlus for Firefox at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865 and add this to the list of blocked hosts: http://gardenweb.us.intellitxt.com* They have a little photo tutorial for Windows on the bottom of the AdBlockPlus download page; interface is the same for Mac. (I'm on Mac, works great; I've never seen a popup here and am actually more annoyed trying to read posts with all the deliberate asterisks and misspellings in them ... ;-) )

You won't be able to see any animations, including the cute birthday gifs and such. Well then there must be a different way to block the annoying animations that 'some' folks see. I don't see them so cannot relate to them and really am not sure what I have that is responsible for blocking them. Can you see Felix pacing below? Do you have the annoying animations blocked? Felix is pacing for me, but I never have/see any annoying animations. For anyone annoyed by them I suggest the Computer Help Forum. I imagine it is more about blocking ads than what it blocking animations.

Are you using safari browser? If so go to the link and download the version of ad block plus for safari to your browser. It's totally free, if something ask for money do not do that, the real adblock plus has always been free. There's many imposters and sound alike programs. The link below is the real thing. There's an option to contribute.

I use adblock plus on my mac in Firefox and I don't see any ads in Yahoo. When GW switched to Houzz, someone posted about adding "Styles" to make the page appear more like the old GW. I added something called Morning Glory. One of the benefits is it is blocking out all the new ads that Houzz is putting on the sidebar. I looked at GW in Safari where I don't have "Styles" added and the ads made me crazy. I checked on Firefox by turning off the "Style" and could see all the ads for Houzz. I couldn't get adblocker to block them. So I simply turned the Morning Glories back on.

Oh, and I donate every year to AdblockerPlus because I appreciate it so much!

Oh yes if you can use Firefox on it then definitely you can use the version for that instead.
