UPDATE: what my leprechaun brought me
Comments (46)My package arrived yesterday as I was getting ready to go out to celebrate with friends from work. Perfect timing there Jeanette. I got seeds for green stuff which I'll post on the 12 month seed swap. A pretty card from my buddie with the #1Angel herself on the front. I Got two green hats one with bangs and braids made of green yarn and a green tophat with sparkly green fringes hanging down. Way Cool. It's perched on top of the lampshade right now. There is a green sleeve for covering be..../er soda cans. A crowd of people are on there and the guy in a green hat says,"what parade, This is the beer line" I got a variety of chocolates and choc mints. Mmmm good. There were tiny choc cookies that looked sorta like choc chips shape and size but were good crunchy little cookies. Very tasty. I got toys too. A green "tentacle ball" that lights up and changes colors. Real cute, that is going to work with me next week. A pastel slinky with green in the middle. I have not seen one in years. There is a beautiful pale green Kaleidoscope. Those have been favorites in my family for as long as I can remember. I did not know they were even still being made. Very Pretty, thanks and a big hug. There is a kit called sticker paint. I'm anxious to see what that is all about. Um?? Did I mention the magnetic soda bottle caps and the note pad for by the phone?? I saved for last, the perfect thing for a snowbound stir crazy Alaskan.... An ornamental grass kit. It contained a peat pellet, grass seed and an instruction booklet. Then once the grass starts growing there is a pair of tiny scissors to keep it trimmed. I'm going to start that tomorrow. This is quite a haul!! Thanks Jeanette. Sure hope I didn't miss anything but with all that was stuffed into that box I might have. Carol thanks for being a super hostess. This is one of my favorite swaps of the year. Comments (67)Jolana, he has always been a dominant male. Especially since he was convinced, by Mother, that he could walk on water. About 5 years ago he, his wife and I took my motor home to CA and back. He made all the trip plans and stops. He had never driven an RV before. After he jumped me for about the 3rd time for not doing something his way or when he told me. I jumped in with both feet and ate him up one side and down the other. I told him he was not my employer nor my husband and not to tell me what to do. He started to say something and I said and "don't interupt me either" I told him for all I cared, he could walk home. I thought his eyes would fall out. No woman had ever "talked" to him like that. My SIL was bug eyed too. LOL We really are close, I think I just took him so by surprise. I think he is "skeered" of me now....See Moreclearing out and lightening my load...have you done it too ?
Comments (41)This thread is inspiring! I am dying to just clear out crap (or not so crappy stuff which I still feel is weighing me down.) We're going to try to sell our house next year and move back to the city, so we will need to get rid of a lot of stuff. Books... no one brought up the issue of bringing them to a library, so I thought I would broach that topic. As a librarian, I have to advise against this! I cannot tell you the CRAP people bring us. Most people are well-meaning, imagining that we can use as many books as we can get. A fair amount of people, though, bring thing to us which are obviously junk, leaving boxes outside the building when we're closed, rather than making the effort to go through things and then bring the junky stuff to the dump. Even the well-meaning people almost invariably end up making more work for us. Even in small libraries with limited budgets, space is usually an issue. And, librarians would rather be able to use the precious space for new items they've selected themselves, in keeping with their Collection Development policies. At best, we can store the donated books and try to sell them in a book sale. Usually, though, the donations make more work for us and the return on the "investment" (of effort) is not high. Most librarians want to create and maintain goodwill in their communities, so they will rarely turn away anything but the worst donated items, but in every library in which I have ever worked, they turn around and gripe to their colleagues. So please... use other avenues (like Got Books? in the northeast) to get rid of your books. Burning books... it sounds horrible, so Fahrenheit 451. But really, very, very few books are precious. There are so many copies of most books, and so many books become obsolete quickly. Others simply aren't in good shape. Don't feel bad about burning your books. Sure, if you have some books which are not on topics which can become outdated, and they're in wonderful shape, consider donating them to a charity which specifically requests book donations. But otherwise... you are not harming anyone or anything by burning books....See MoreWe lost my Mom today
Comments (76)Oh, Mush, I'm so, so sorry. I know you must be exhausted, both physically and mentally. My mom has had three light strokes in the last six weeks and the confusion, esp. at night, has increased a bunch. When she slips up it scares me to death. This morning when I brought her home from the hospital and saw one of her conditions listed as dementia I could have cried. Get you a bunch of rest and try and comfort yourself with the fact that now she is finally at peace. You haven't lost your mom - you'll carry her with you until the day you die!
