1/2 bath help please
This bath has had a huge bare wall for quite awhile now because I just can't seem to find anything. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? It is painted RH slate and I attached a picture of the mirror and lighting fixture. When you first walk in a long back wall is in front of you and the sink and mirror are on your right. The candle sconce you see reflected in the mirror is hanging above the toilet. I am stuck and just don't know what I should be looking for in art for the room. Thanks so much!

8 years agoHere are a few more pictures I couldn't get a good picture of the entire wall because of the size of the room I couldn't get back far enough. I hope this gives you a better idea of the room.

Comments (22)Adding a bed/bath doesn't always add value. If you aren't changing the size of the house by having an addition for the third bedroom and second bath, then you probably won't see any additional value added. In fact, as mentioned above, you could very well have a reduced value based on the newly non-functional 3/2. Any buyer and/or appraiser would have to take into account the cost to restore it to a functional layout. Walking through a bedroom to get to a bedroom doesn't add value. Having a very small bedroom (7x10) would be a detriment in my market and possibly in your market. I agree that the best way to add a bedroom/bath to this home is through a well thought-out addition. It would need to look natural as if it was an original part of the house rather than an after-thought. Consider working with an architect. 8 years agolast modified: 8 years agoPretty room! So many possibilities .... large painting or print, two or more smaller ones, monochromatic, bringing in color, something sculptural, etc. What kind of artwork do you like?

8 years agoYou've got the same issue that I do with the TP holder being highly visible! This was taken when I was "auditioning" artwork for the space.
I see now what you mean about it being difficult to photograph the wall space. Same with my powder room, and even more difficult to really capture the fact that the artwork I chose for the room does actually fill the walls nicely. (In these pics it looks a bit lost!)
Anyway, I just chose artwork I had collected previously to display in this space. I have a couple of original paintings, a photograph, a vintage framed calendar, and a print -- not everything is visible in the pic, of course.
I would encourage you to look for paintings or prints that appeal to you. There is SO much out there that it's impossible to tell you exactly what will work best, and of course, art is so highly personal. Have fun with your search!

8 years agoThank you so much for the ideas. I did not notice that tp holder before but now it is all I see! Lol. I will be moving that. I have a couple of ideas for art but let me warn you I'm all over the place with what direction to go. I thought a vintage map might be neat but I do have 3 huge vintage maps hanging in the office so that's probably overkill on the maps. I love the abstract but I'm not sure if it would look good with the room. The rainy day pick I thought was different and interesting. I would love your thoughts!
