Diapers hold urine, why not your plant's water?

I was checking out gardening videos on YT and saw this one about using diaper materials to hold water for your plants. It reminds me of those similar gel things that you would throw in a vase of water and it will grow and absorb water, releasing it as needed.

In this case, the same material that is designed to soak up urine from a baby, is used to soak up regular water for your potted plants (and I suppose it could be used outside if you had enough of it).
