Would you choose light or dark granite for this kitchen? (pics)
Comments (33)The color on the walls is SW Blonde (above the chair rail - below is SW Lemon Verbena - a sagey green that is just a little too light). It is the 5th coat of paint on the kitchen walls! I finally tried it after 4 other failed attempts, all either too green or pink. I really wanted something with a yellow undertone to it. If you search SW Blonde on this website, you'll find lots of info. I should've researched here first and saved myself a lot of painting. But then again, everything looks different with different woodwork and lighting. Firsthouse_mp, thanks for linking that website. I really have a hard time with beiges and greens, but looking at her examples on her blog, it looks so obvious. I can tell the green-beige, pink-beige, and yellow-beige right away. Why is it so hard looking at paint chips in the paint store, then - lol! Well, I think we're leaning towards the lighter color. We are going to our fabricator on Friday to see what they carry in stock, so maybe we'll have a decision soon. I'll definetly post pic's when we get to that point. Besides, then I'll need the dreaded BACKSPLASH help - lol!...See MoreHelp choosing granite - kitchen makeover
Comments (4)I took a little trip to the granite yard today actually! I thought that I wanted a lighter color at least on the island so I brought home chunks of Giallo Ornamental and New Venetian which are nearly identical except that the Giallo has a tighter pattern. I do prefer wavy, swirly granite to the more uniform ones, but maybe it would be nice to have something more uniform around the perimeter for the contrast. I have an impossible time picturing anything though I try so hard:) I was wondering about the possibility of using corian for the perimeter counters and stopped at Home Depot to get some samples. Most of what I picked up was dark chocolate brown ones (one was actually called chocolate brown.) As I mentioned above, I like the Nash pendant from Pottery Barn but it's described as silver plated with a blackened finish. Would that look silly with rubbed bronze hardware for the cabs, or could I get some sort of "old" looking silver hardware for the cabinets? I would like to make some decisions and then sit on them for awhile, but I am definitely antsy to get this project rolling. We did very little to the kitchen of our previous house during the 7 years we lived there because we knew that we would leave before too long so I feel like I've waited for my nice kitchen for a long time even though we've only been here a short time - does that make sense? Comments (2)twobdesign: I spent half a day today refinishing a granite top, something they all need, at least in spots, every decade or so. There was a spot or two that I had to remind myself that was in the stone; nothing I could do. When you buy natural stone, you get what you get. No whining about it later....See Morechoosing granite for the kitchen
