Aktillery9, I like the looks of your kitchen.

I am confident that the colors of the tile will work well with the countertop. The concern is that the mosaic may "clash" with the busy countertop. As another member put it....kind of like a paisley shirt with plaid pants.

While I do like a mosaic backsplash, I definitely don't want the kitchen to look bad.

I have seen those pictures. I'm just looking for some guidance on if I should go with the mosaic I picked out or go in a different direction.

Well, congratulations on your first home! That is always special. I think you need to decide if you can enjoy (live with?) for many years a very busy kitchen. Separately, you have good looking pieces, but together, I suspect that counter with that backsplash will look more and more discordant over the months. Then, you lose the unique and special impact that each has on its own. I would look at some more classic, simple backsplashes that will allow your countertop to shine.

CSimmons, I have to agree with the advise you've referenced, the mosaic would be very busy with Bianco Antico. I've seen that granite before and it's gorgeous so why not go simple with the backsplash and let the granite be the star of the room.

Since you have darker cabinets, I would go with just a simple white subway. Classic and timeless. Or if you prefer stone, you could go with a tumbled marble like the second picture down. With stone though there is no guarantee with coloring. Some tumbled marble has more than others.

I much prefer the 'quieter' one that mayflowers posted above. I think the paisley/plaid reference is good for the counter top you have and your chosen tile. Both are great on their own, but together too busy.

I remember your home now--you wanted to bring industrial elements into your traditional home. It's all making sense now. ;) Not design sense imo but sense in understanding what you want to do. I would definitely bring stainless into your backsplash but I'd look for glass and stainless (no stone) with less color variation.

We have the same granite in our master bath. Yours has more white/creme in it than ours or maybe it is because of the amount you have compared to ours. We went with a solid glass listello, in a grayish color for the shower where the window sill and threshold will be the granite. The listello color matches well with some of the granite colors.

MizGG, I saw that you edited your first post. I didn't mean for my comment about having already saw those images to be brash. I'm sorry if I offended you as that was not my intention. I have looked though a lot of pictures and was simply commenting that I had saw those.

I have that same granite in my bathroom, it is beautiful. I do think though that a quiet backsplash would be better. The granite is busy already.

I'm in the camp of folks who think a multicolor mosaic is too busy to pair with a busy granite (and yours is busy). If you want a mosaic, a single color should work (I like mboston's paring). Stainless steel (sheet or tiles) would be cool.

As much as I didn't want too due to the fact that I liked that backsplash, I am starting to side with you all. This is a prime example of why I turn to everyone on here for suggestions.

While the pic below isn't the greatest photoshop in the world, at least it gave me a better visual of what the backsplash would look like.

I am not much of plain white subway tile as I think it is too boring. Any suggestions on what to go with for a backsplash. I'll need to make this decision asap.

If you like mine, its called Dream Hawaiian Beach and we found it at a new store in town called Floor & Decor. The surface has a wavy feel to it.

Industrial-traditional made me think of Fireclay's thin brick tile.

Comes in lots of colors.

As far as color, I'd pick one from the granite. Or you could even go with larger square or even larger tiles. They're making a comeback.

That glass subway tile would be gorgeous. I really like that look - it's classic but with a decidedly contemporary twist.

I'm glad you're reconsidering the mosaic with your granite. I'm not feeling well today (bit dizzy and nauseated), and have to say that looking at the photos of such a "plaid/paisley" combo made me feel even worse! ;-)~

The backsplash, in isolation, is stunning. The granite in isolation, is stunning.

The two together will be firing stun guns at each other, and the kitchen loses in the clash. Two many divas!

I'd use a pale solid subway tile in cream or a pale taupe (a pale shade that blends with the granite) so the countertops can be the uncontested star of the show.

Just a thought, but what about a low sheen stainless steel?

If you google stainless steel tile backsplashes there are several images.

I agree that the pencil mosaic tile would be too much with the granite. A simpler option as suggested many times in the thread is the way to go. I have also heard that pencil tile was kind of on its way "out".

I get what you mean about subway tile. However, I found this image on Pinterest and it really spoke to me. Still subway tile but with a creative twist. Laying the first row vertically where the tile meets the granite and horizontal up to the cabinets takes away some of the boring and makes it more interesting. I think it would compliment your granite and cabinets nicely.

Whatever you end up choosing, I'd go with solid. I really like the photo Lori posted above. If you still want the mosaic, I prefer the less busy style Mayflowers posted above. I actually don't know if ever saw one like that.

Okay....I think we may have found the tile to go with. We are thinking a 4 inch high by 12 inch wide glass tile. See the pics below. The tile is the second from the left and is light taupe in color. The color is called Shimmy.

Looks like the color will work. I wonder if it will be too dark though once it's all up. I like the glass. Can you take a photo of the tiles standing up since that's they way they'll be IRL?

Better. Just make sure you view the tile vertical like it would be on the wall juxtaposed to the horizontal granite counter. I've seen glass tiles shift color and go a few shades darker when they're viewed vertically.

Not at the house to put it up on the counter but here you go. The color is a bit lighter than what is coming out in the picture. We will also have bright white LED under cabinet lighting.

Lori, the tile will be going horizontally. Here is a slightly better pic under florescent lighting; however, my iphone camera is still making it a look a bit dark.

I like it. I think the warmer gray goes well with your granite (and your cabs), and it's far enough removed from a subway size to not evoke that vintage traditional vibe.

I would much prefer a solid glass backsplash over the mosaic with your granite and think the light taupe is probably a safe choice!! I had a taupe glass subway in a previous bathroom and the color was great! your floor look very light (tile?? or is that cardboard?) so I think some color in your backsplash and wall would be nice... when choosing your backsplash, also think about what you want to do with your walls!
