Bianco Antico with Stainless backsplash

Hi All

I've taken some photos of our kitchen and bar. We're really pleased with the outcome. I still need to jazz it up a little but I have a tendency to go over the top so I'm trying to show restraint with my accessories till I know what I want.

One thing that I need to get over is cleaning up after hubby and son. As soon as they put their keys on the counter I'm moving them, son's gym bag today just about had me hyperventilating.

Great pics. BA is my favorite granite. It gets me every time. It really looks good with the stainless mini-bricks behind the range.

I wonder if the urge to put the gym bag on the counter would lessen if you threatened to throw out anything non-kitchen related that sat on the counter for more than .5 seconds? ;)

I hope this is a little more satisfying that my appetizer the other day. That cracked me up..Thanks for all your help with the backsplash ideas, I'm so glad I didnt go crazy with glass mosaic.

For some reason, after reading the colors of your countertop and cabinets, this stone I used last year in a health club jumped right out at me. It's a sandblasted emperador dark marble (different from tumbled, in that it's got a much more rustic finish):

It would really help to see a pic of your kitchen or at least the layout. Depending on the size and the space requiring the backsplash, different sizes of field tile could be used. So, lets assume average size. You can do a subway glass tile in an oversized rectangular shape (let's say 4x8). If you want to add mosaics, you can do a single row, then maybe a 3" strip of mosaics, then the rest in the field tile with a broken joint pattern. Here's one suggestion for field color: I like the taupe or buffett gray depending on your slab. Then you can do a mosaic inset of your liking. Another different idea would be to do a "safe" color but in an interesting way. Choose something with somehttp://www.interstyle.ca/img/products/glass/mosaics/icestix/icestixcolors.jpg variation in sheen, texture, color saturation to bring it more interest without competing with the granite. Like this? The rumble color looks kinda nice. Install either horizontally or vertically for even more "funk".

Beekeepers... Another salivating member here. Your tiles are my absolute favorite in all of gardenweb. I found something similar on a blog. I contacted her several times to see where she bought them. Let's say... many, many times rather than several. She never responded. I'm guessing that she didn't want people to copy her or something. I kept doing searches for morrocan tiles and got actual moroccan blue tiles and such every time. Thank god for this site. Or, I would never have seen them again. Do you happen to know how much they were per tile? I'm a good year away from doing a backsplash. I'm hoping they will still have them then! :) If not, I may have to buy and store. Thanks! Kim

Still don't have pictures to upload (soon, I hope), but we have settled on a porcelain tile that has a stone look--Edimax - Materia Forte in Basaltica. It's got grey tones, which look better with our granite than brown tones. We plan to use 4 x 4 tiles and do random accents of oil rubbed bronze 4 x 4 tiles, which will match our cabinet pulls and bring out the copper in the granite. This satisfies my DH, who wanted a more "natural" look than ceramic tile, but will also be very maintenance friendly. I really appreciate your feedback on the travertine. I was ready to give in and use it, but your comments about the true purpose of a backsplash really gave me pause, and a better compromise was reached. Thanks again. I hope to figure out and post preliminary pictures sometime next week, although the backsplash and finish electrical is not done. Are pictures of your kitchen posted? Would love to see it, too.

Beautiful!! Very similar to the look i was going for, except i have dark cabs. I love the ss backsplash! Its tiles, right? So grout in between? Wonderful, congratulations!

Your counters and bs are lovely! I can see why you don't want them covered by anything...

I find our sons and my dh are oblivious and think they can just drop their stuff everywhere. It is an uphill battle. It does not help that I work on the weekend and they are home or running in and out. It doesn't take a CSI tech to figure out everything they did all day, lol... I will work on housebreaking them all until it sticks. I bet if a few things go missing, they may be more careful where they dump their possessions ;).
