HELP arranging my bedroom! Should I put my bed in front of the window?
Comments (27)Hi everyone! Thank you so much again for your help and guidance. I thought I should pop in here for a quick update (I just hate when people post a question and never update their resolution!). It took almost 2 years but I'm finally at a good place with the bedroom decor. We ended up putting the bed up against the window because of symmetry and it also opened up a big space at the foot of the bed where we can play with our dog. We also ended up with a queen bed instead of a king. We don't mind the bed in front of the window at all. The bed has a wire headframe and barely blocks the light. We just need to hang some pictures or paintings and I think I can call the bedroom done! Thank you again for all of your wonderful suggestions and advice!...See MoreWindow Sound Barrier Help! Comments (33)Your experience may be correct and it woud be hard for me to disagree without knowing the exact details of what you did. If you were to compare STC or OITC ratings of manufacture of the same window , one with dissimilar glass glass package in dual pane and one with triple pane. You would see virtuallly know difference in the numbers. In most cases with a window manufacturer that produces windows for sound control you would find no triple panes offfered. The science says otherwise But if what you do works , it works. I have triple paned unitsbin my house and I know when a car drives by when I’m awake at about 200 ‘....See MoreBest sound-deadening materials (hopefully less toxic)?
Comments (34)@Patricia Colwell, I empathize! I keep an array of natural zzz potions close at hand, but I am starting to think a little subterranean cave might be my best bet at this point. Or, more realistically, the walk in closet! :-D Seriously, if our new walls don't cut it, I guess I could install wall-to-wall bookshelves on the walls in question and stuff 'em with thick tomes and other sound absorbers (with a back layer of cork tile?). Perhaps that would buffer the sounds of Early Riser. Here's a floor plan, fwiw (hope it enlarges well enough!). The bold black lines mark the two interior walls I wanted to reinforce. Brown dots represent doors (solid core). That bright pink X is me, covering my ears. The blue X on lower right is our son (also a light sleeper). Red circle marks the area most likely to generate noise. Green star in upper left corner indicates a tiny wet bar where (evil cackle) I've just decided Early Riser will be making his 4 AM coffee if he can't be quiet enough in the kitchen! Problem solved? Comments (13)I installed Gila mirror on my brand new windows that face south (desert climate). The difference in the rooms is wonderful, no heat, no glare, no fading on the wood floors or furniture. It wasn't the easiest to apply by myself in the large areas...watch their youtube video, watch it again, have all of your tools available and DON'T let the film roll up and get stuck to itself. The corners were a little harder, I had to stick some paper towel to them for 5 min to keep the corners from wanting to release. All summer with up to 102F temps and the film looks perfect. It also provides great/full privacy during the daylight hours (unless you have another window directly behind it...then you can see through but not clearly). I wanted a professional to install a commercial grade film but could not get anyone to return a call since the job was so small. Keep in mind that this mirror film blocks all the rays needed for plants to survive (I called Gila). And no, it does not look cheesy from the outside. With my black windows it just brings out the window frame and provides privacy, does not look like foil or anything silvery that I was scared of....See MoreWindows on Washington Ltd
