armadillos i hate'em
Comments (54)I don't know of any legal form of poison that you can use to rid your yard of the armadillos. Armadillos are there because there's some sort of living critters in the soil that they like to eat. Normally they are after the white grub worms in the soil, so treating the yard at the right time of the year to kill the grubs will reduce the available food supply. I used Milky Spore Powder scattered on the ground and watered in during the month of either July or August in our early years here and it really reduced the grub population which made our yard less attractive to armadillos. However, in the absence of grubs, the armadillos just dig and eat other soil-dwellers, including earthworms, so you'll never be able to completely rid your soil of things the armadillos like to eat. Cayenne pepper works for me if I scatter it right on the soil surface in areas where they are digging, but I generally don't use it because we are on rural acreage and the wild animals have to eat to survive. I try to coexist with them as much as possible because there's no way you'll ever get rid of all of them. Nature abhors a vacuum, so when you eliminate the dillos you have, more of them just move in from elsewhere. That's how nature works. We have fenced the digging dillos out of our veggie gardens, and I grow fruit, flowers and herbs in the veggie gardens along with the veggies since that's the only armadillo-proof area that I have. If I had armadillos under my house, I'd go to Sam's Club, CostCo or to an ethnic, oriental-type grocery store, and buy the huge bulk containers of hot pepper that they sell and I'd sprinkle it on the ground where the armadillos are burrowing under the house, and I'd sprinkle it wherever they were feeding. They don't like getting a snout full of hot, cayenne pepper and usually will move along elsewhere after experiencing that a few times. You will have to sprinkle more cayenne on the ground after each rainfall. The Dirt Doctor always has been a big proponent of repelling them with cayenne, so I'll link a page from his website where he discusses using this method to repel the armadillos. If you kill them and they are under your house, you will have to put up with the smell of their decomposing bodies for however long it takes the soft tissue to fully decompose. It will not be pleasant to smell that. The smell won't ruin the neighborhood forever, but it might make living in your house really unpleasant for several weeks. If you're able to drive them out from under the house by using the cayenne pepper, I'd suggest you lay down chicken wire several feet wide to completely cover the area where they were going under the house, and use boards to hold it down. This will exclude them if they should forget about the misery of the cayenne pepper and try to return in a few weeks or months. Comments (26)i used to always tell my sd bm how i felt. from throwing my sd dinner back at bm to argueing in court (stupid i know) it used to be hard for me to hold my tounge. but now that i have my own children to look out for - going to jail is not an option for me lol. Last year we both almost got arrested for argueing at the courthouse. I hate it when she tells me im not her mom... No im not but you dumped her off with DH father rather than take care of her yourself, you signed over your rights , and you beat and bit her - so dh and i took over. You left the job open and i was willing to take on her resposibility. No Im not her mom but i do have her 7 days a week , i do her homework with her, i feed her , i take her to school and pick her up , i pay her way to everything and i kiss her goodnight. BM is more of a friend than a mom. Tomorrow is court and yes i know now to bite my tounge but i can only hope our attorney fights like hell. She used to be a family law judge untill she retired and now just handles cases as a hobby. She funded the supervise visitation center down here.... Last hearing the judge wanted to hear nothing and stated the case has drug on to long and wants it over and final as soon as possible so i knowmonday will bring some big changes. DH is in denial but i know she will endup with weekends and from coming from only 6 hrs a week thats alot to us. Alot more worries and i know if she doesnt change her living conditions then alot more arguements. But once it is final and things dont change best believe if my sd is sleeping on the floor or in the living room on a blowup matress with her aunt (convicted drug offender) i will have cps involved. I took vows to my husband as well as my sd to protect her even if she doesnt see the danger from her mother. She has made changes though and i strongly believe it was due to the things i have said to her. sometimes its the only way to get through someones thick skull.......See MoreExtended family - love 'em or hate 'em?
Comments (15)The only family member I had problems with was my alcoholic/drug using Brother in law. He died from his lifestyle. Caused a lot of problems for the family. W I managed to allow him to be part of our family for DHs and DMIL's sake but we knew lock things up and hide the bottles. Like many people of his ilk he could be quite charming when he wasn't drinking, drugging, scamming or demanding some sort of delusional entitlement. I have been recently back in touch with my niece and am happy that she seems to have finally broken the pattern of the dysfunction she was raised in. After a rocky start she has a good guy in her life and 3 happy healthy boys. LOVE my DD's in-laws. We are instant family. They love my DD and we in turn love their DS. All of us clicked instantly. Truly a happy blended family. Boths DHs are quite and we moms are the outgoing ones in personalities. The men just sit and shake their heads when we get together. The "kids" just sigh and smile a lot. ;-) In a few days DSILs brother will be getting married. We will add one more to our small clan. I also love my son's lady. She is perfect for him and I consider her my DDIL. They have been together the longest of the "kids". Her mom loves him too which I am told is quite an accomplishment. Bad men history and mistrust in her DDs choices I guess. But my DS is the apple of her eye. I like her too. Unlike my DDs inlaws we don't have as much in common but I really like her and we get along just fine. We are a small family. I only have two cousins and a one brother. One cousins has one DD. We don't see each other often but we all like each other. For many years I was estranged from them due to conflict between my mother and her brother. We all feel we missed out because of it....See More2020 blooms, if you've got 'em show 'em
