What's the difference between 'point' and 'percent'?
Comments (6)From what the investment person has said so far, the interest on these floating notes is tax-free because they are government issued. Just as when you invest in municipal bonds, the interest received on those is tax-free also. Some investments are tax DEFERRED rather than truly tax-free, meaning that you don't pay tax on the interest during the year(s) in which the interest is actually credited to your account but you will have to do so when the investment (bond, annuity, whatever) finally reaches maturity and you get your principal plus interest back. I see you are located in Canada. Interesting thing is, when I inherited some money from my dad, back in the mid 1990s, it was the first chance I had to buy any stocks and after doing a lot of research I decided to put about 2/3 of it into various Canadian companies. Canadian Pacific, Canadian National Railway, Halliburton Company, and a couple of others. Turns out that those are the only ones who have really held their own in the recent years' stock market mess. Well.... except for Nortel (used to be Northern Telecom before they started aggressively expanding into the USA). I bought it at something like $17 a share. The stock split several times and just kept going up again. At one point in the 1990s it was up to $120 CDN per share. I agonized for weeks over whether to sell it all at that point and get hit with capital gains taxes on the profit, or to just follow my usual instinct and let it keep doing its rise-split-rise-split thing. Finally opted to hold onto it. Then the telecom bubble burst and within two weeks the stock price went into freefall. It was selling for $2.98 a share the last time I looked. Now there's your basic "oops". Oh well, if I ever desperately need to take a whopping capital loss, I can always sell it..... Funny story: I love Tim Hortons coffee and one day I decided to find out if I could buy stock in the company. They are starting to expand into the most northern parts of the USA now too (Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, and such). [Too bad there is so much competition here already from Dunkin' Donuts and Starbucks] Anyway, I found out that Tim Hortons is owned by Wendys (which is all over the place down here). So I bought 100 shares of Wendys. Now if only I could buy Tim's coffee at Wendys...!!!!...See MoreBravos washers--what's the difference between these models?
Comments (4)pluckymama, I haven't had any problem with my Maytag Bravos MTW6700TQ washer tangling my laundry, or with the Bravos MTW6400 dryer wrinkling them. I did read the booklets thoroughly and carefully before using them, for they are so (wonderfully!) different from my old machines. I've washed towels and 'hot' white clothes, sheets, jeans and work clothes, and I haven't had any problem yet. In fact, the sheets were MUCH less tangled than they were after I had washed them in my old washer. I do make it a point to get the laundry out of both machines as soon as they are done, I shake out items before putting them in the dryer, and I fold or hang clothes immediately when taking them out of the dryer - things I've always done. I really like it that both machines 'beep' when done - noise level can be set at LO or MED or HI - as my laundry room is off the garage. My laundry is noticeably cleaner - so far, I've used liquid Tide HE w/Dawn Stain Scrubbers (a sample packet came in my washer) on a king-size comforter which was dirty/stained/ badly in need of washing, I've used liquid Tide HE w/bleach (w/a bit of baking soda and some Clorox) on the 'hot' whites, and I've used Sears Kenmore HE Ultra Stain-Lifting detergent on the jeans and work clothes. I've been very impressed with the cleanliness of my laundry - AND the gentle treatment they get, even with the high-speed spin. The lack of an agitator definitely makes a difference. I should mention I very much appreciate the soak cycle on the washer, for I've always soaked really dirty clothes, and my guys work outdoor jobs. When I used it for white clothes today, I chose the 'extra-dirty' option, and the soak cycle lasted 99 minutes - more than an hour and a half, which was great. The machine did not spin, all the detergent was still in there, then I ran it through the Whites wash cycle. I really, really like it that the dryer is through usually about 10 minutes before the washer is done - that gives me time to get the laundry out of the dryer and squared away before the washer stops. At this point, there are no negatives - only positives. :-)...See MoreDifference between Persil formulas?
Comments (7)Sandy16, Henkel does have someone who handles NA Persil (I spoke with him by email some time ago). Do you know if your bags have any German on them? I ask because you can buy bags of Persil here (in Canada) that are not directly from Henkel and are not the German version. They are "lesser" (Henkel's description) versions made for other countries like Poland, etc ... They were brought into Canada by an independent source (exporting them from these other European countries. Genuine product has English - made for NA (or I imagine German as it's exported directly from German?). Does any of that make sense??? lol ......See MoreTide Total care liquid vs Tide Toral care HE liquid
Comments (21)Yes,I bought a box at Sams but this was first of the year. Had the he and a pic of a front loader on there and said "clean rinse technology" or something like that. I did call Cheer and ask since I never see it at Wal/Mart or other places. Lady told me they did it in the 120 load box for Club stores as a trial. Said that it wasnt being made anymore, BUT that it could come back later again for the club stores. I saw a while back at Sams they had it in the new dark box and it was also he (120 ld) and was cut to $9.99. I still believe the regular Cheer Powder is the same as the HE cause it doesnt suds much either. I wish it still smelled like it used to several years ago....See Moresandy1616
