Which fabric for this chair
Comments (21)I am leaning toward the white/blue... although I may go back to the drawing board with the fabric. I think I may need to go deeper... I'm thinking about doing away with the nailhead trim and adding a welt in a contrasting color. Also, the chair as it is has a solid suede back, so I can play around with a couple of fabrics. (see below) This link is an example of the contrasting welt: http://www.horchow.com/p/Lilly-Pulitzer-Johanna-Upholstered-Armchair-Fabric/cprod84620041_cat5720732_cat5720731_/?index=69&cmCat=cat000000cat000001cat16060742cat5720731cat5720732&isEditorial=false...See MoreWhich barstools and got fabric for chair slipcovers...
Comments (9)Thanks guys!!!I was leaning towards #4 also. Of course, it's the most expensive as well. Good point Les about the curves in the cabinets. I didn't even realize that, but thought the stools went with the curves in the dining chairs. I'm not sure if there is any way to relocate those brackets, although it makes sense to do so. The stools are counter height so they should fit (and I've had other stools there before that worked out ok) but I'll be sure to measure. Another good point!...See MoreVintage fabric, linens, handmade finds in your decor?
Comments (12)I have a lace tablecloth I turned into a curtain by sewing a piece of organza on one side for a rod channel. I still have it altho am not currently using it. More recently I temporarily hung 5 large white linen napkins over the rod on an angle so the points were hanging down. I liked it so much I left it up for several months. I have many crochet doilies, heavy lace runners, and a vintage embroidered runner I use occasionally. I also have a few other vintage linens that mostly stay in the cupboard. Some are from family and others from yard sales. I consider it my duty to 'rescue' nice hand crochet doilies when they are free or 25 cents at yard sales or thrift shops. Many probably end in landfills as fewer people treasure them these days. I also have a couple of table squares with cross-stitch embroidery on gingham that my DM made in the 60's - 70's which I occasionally use. Here's a tablesetting using a vintage white linen table square and pink and white hand crochet doilies made my my aunt many decades ago. This was a fun vignette I did for the Grands on my sideboard layering many old doilies some of which are quite worn but I just try to hide the imperfections. Boopadaboo, I made macrame back in the 70's altho never any owls. I made plant and wall hangings and one window valance. They are all long gone. Perhaps it's time it came back in limited amounts! LOL...See Morehelp with cleaning vintage fabric and ID please
Comments (6)You could do a burn test on a strip of it to determine what the content is, then figure out which cleaning method to use. I added a link to one of several sites that tell how to do it. Otherwise, I think the method you were thinking...cold water, gentle cycle, air fluff...would be the way I would go. You'd know the results before making something, and if the fabric lost its hand, etc, you could always use it for lining or facing, etc. I don't think you would have much to lose since it would be hard to sell due to the odor, anyway. Here is a link that might be useful: burn test...See Moretheclose
