Our GE Mono fridge was a floor model at $2450 and the freezer was a S&D for $2650 (which didn't matter as we tossed the panels it came with anyway). It was a much better deal than the SZ and we are very happy with them. We would NOT have spent $8000 on them! No way!! No how!! In fact we were planning on the Electrolux when these practically fell into our laps.

We were able to find the Frigidaire All freezer/frig combo in stock and on display at a appliance store about 70 miles from us - we drove up, took a look at them, and bought them. They are in storage right now, so I have no idea how they will work once installed, but we were impressed with them enough to buy them. Comparing the specs of the Elextrolux, and seeing what looked like more reported problems with them, we were happy to go with the "lower end" Frigidaire. Time will tell if we were right! The other plus is the Enegry Star rating, and the ice maker (we didn't want a water dispenser)...The ice maker is the simple type in the top corner and takes up little space. The best is the price for how much space you gain.

Just passed 3 years ownership and still completely satisfied. I would definitely buy them again and recommend them without reservation. About a year ago, one of the units (I think it was the freezer) started making a louder than normal noise when the compressor started up, but it went away right around the time I considered calling someone about it - go figure! I have not been keeping track of the year to year model evolutions, but just looking at the comparison page on Frigidaire's website, I have no idea why they make two lines - the Professional and the Gallery are virtually identical but for a few tiny details. BTW, I did not receive any incentives to write this - just a satisfied owner.

As far as energy use goes Northland supplies a table in their documentation that estimates energy consumption of the unit as a function of ambient temperature. What the table says and how much energy the fridge actually consumes are sometimes two very different things. CR has caught Samsungs using significantly more that their table suggest and Viking using outrageously more than their table says. CR has been beating the drum for the Feds to check more carefully and throw the book at those manufactures that don't comply with what they are reporting to the public. I have read some Northland owners say their fridge falls into that Viking territory. But temperature performance is top notch.
