Merillat Masterpiece vs Classic Cabinet Pricing
Comments (0)We are in the process of building a home and recently got a quote for our kitchen. I know it's hard without specifics on floorplan/measurements, but it is approximately a 12x12 kitchen, with an island. The quote for Merillat Masterpiece came back at approx. $11k. We do not want to spend that much, so were considering dropping to the Merillat Classic instead, and the quote came back at approx. $10K. We just expected there to be a much more substantial difference between the two, as the Masterpiece is solid wood and the Classic is not. Does anyone have any insight as to if these quotes seem reasonable or not?...See MoreHOUSE FIRE LAST MAY
Comments (15)Just had a fire last year and moved back in a month ago. So still living it. We did not hire a public adjustor. I am not sure if it would have been better or not. It was a long crazy process and I still have the receipts and replacement to go. Our insurance was great to work with overall and our contractors were the best for restoration work around, but had to manage project way closer than we liked. I know that an adjustor can make things easier for you, but can make dealing with insurance sometimes trickier and longer. Plus you need money to pay them sitting around. Also, make sure you find out how good they are and negotiate rates. The one thing I learned with a fire is everyone sees you and the situation to make money from your tragedy. Fair to earn money for services, but they don't care how much insurance is charged if they can get it out of the situation. We had to fire our first contractor for this (and other things). Best luck!!!...See MoreAnother ARG masterpiece! ;)
Comments (13)Ok, I normally like to follow up on these a little sooner with a word to process but when it rains it pours...LOL! As I said above, this is a house for Carrie's parents although she took the lead. She actually met over a cup of coffee with another owner I worked with....little did they know I was sitting in the next booth hearing everything! Ok, Her father had built one or two houses (forgot the number) with his own design and he thought that went well but Carrie thought it was worth talking to someone else about design so we had a conversation first and then later we had a conversation with Carrie and her parents. After that her father seemed on board and I went ahead. They owned a parcel (the one below on the road) with a 39 acre parcel owned by someone else behind it to the south. Both have VERY steep slopes. Here's a photo of part of it In looking at the parcel there appeared to be one general spot that would spare some trees and it was favored by Carrie and her parents. I did three studies of how best to get up there with probable house and garage locations: The four of us had another discussion all about the pros and cons of each. And then, lo and behold, in the middle of this, the guy that owned the 39 acre parcel to the south who Carrie thought would never sell, suddenly displayed an interest in parting with his parcel.....with that unexpected twist this project now felt like a game of "Surviver"! I half expected to hear Jeff Probst come on the line! They don't teach this stuff in design school! Anyway, the deal went through but it wasn't all that bad as very steep slopes where all to the south anyway, so we moved the house location about 200' south and I reworked the driveway which over the entire length, actually got a little less steep. I came up a "big idea" sketch. I like to draw these 'big idea" sketches small and freehanded so I can keep the big picture in mind undistracted by precision. This one is about 6" tall. And then fine tuned it up all the while keeping tabs on the size: And I did a quick 3D model and looked at some screened in porch configurations: Challenging project but fun. And Carrie's parents are blessed to have such a caring daughter. And a great family to work with....See MoreBenjamin Moore 'Navy Masterpiece' combo, Florida bungalow columns
Comments (3)Tell us more about your plans for the front steps. Will you use the tiles for the risers and leave the treads as is? I would choose the tiles first before deciding on the column paint color. For instance, if you chose this tile for the riser and kept the brick tread, I would paint the lower of the columns the same blue/green....See More4kids4us
