What do plumerias smell like?
Comments (18)Hi Know this is a very old post but was recently looking around for Plumeria that is evergreen and the flower is not white. Went to a special nursery was blown away by the variety !! 30 different growth habits , 25 fragrances , 15 choices among the evergreens .If that isn't enough they can custom graft to the habit color and fragrance you choose lol In my years of gardening I've always got cuttings from neighbors so have never bought one . Had no idea there was so much choice !! While i love plumeria hate the habits, get gigantic naked all winter while I found evergreen thought they only came in white and mine is only fragrant at night . While they were expensive settled for a dwarf in a soft yellow with an apricot aroma . Has not flowered as yet but still has leaves and a beautiful "weeping" habit ,supposedly will stay under 6 feet. Was tempted by the custom grafts but a bit out of my budget!! lol I always thought only roses had lots of choices !! gary...See MoreHow to rid house of dog smell
Comments (31)PLEASE HELP we have never had dogs in this house and have lived here 8 years prior to wet dog smell arriving! We have laminate flooring throughout the downstairs rooms, the rooms near the front of house (darker rooms as no sunlight + also street water runs towards our front so always damp outside there) smell of wet dog everytime we mop them, the ones at sunny side of house dont?? My real worry is because i started with some form of respiratory problem soon after this smell appeared and now my son seems to be showing problems too. Im wondering if there is some mold maybe under laminate or under house which is apparently sat on a floating foundation? (not a full cement floor but a smaller square in centre under it so it can flex safely? i think!) or even a problem in wooden frame of house as we have had 2 bad leaks, 1 above the rooms that smell, and 1 where it smells although both were 4 years ago, 3 years before smell starting. I have searched internet and can find no answers everyone seems to say its because of actual dogs but that is not the case here so what is it from? how do i locate cause with minimal cost? Or would the house insurance cover anything? the laminate is glued together so it will be ruined if i pull it up. Ive had a skirting board off and cant see/smell anything there...Or do you think it could just be a chemical in the laminate that reacts with water and creates this wet dog smell? please help i am going to have to do something soon so any ideas / advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks...See MoreIs dead rat smell harmful to health?
Comments (57)" I bleached everything - walls, ceilings, floors - cleaned all the furniture and covered every vent in the house. Had the carpets and ducts professionally cleaned, and there it is - faint, but still it's there." One recently divorced woman never did find the cause. On the first day, he sadly packed his belongings into boxes, crates and suitcases. On the second day, he had the movers come and collect his things. On the third day, he sat down for the last time at their beautiful dining-room table, by candle-light; he put on some soft background music, and feasted on a pound of shrimp, a jar of caviar, and a bottle of wine. When he'd finished, he went into each and every room and deposited a few half-eaten shrimps dipped in caviar into the hollow center of the curtain rods. He then cleaned up the kitchen and left. On the fourth day, the wife came back with her new boyfriend, and at first all was bliss. Then, slowly, the house began to smell. They tried everything; cleaning, mopping, and airing-out the place. Vents were checked for dead rodents, and carpets were steam cleaned. Air fresheners were hung everywhere. Exterminators were brought in to set off gas canisters, during which time the two had to move out for a few days, and in the end they even paid to replace the expensive wool carpeting.. Nothing worked! People stopped coming over to visit. Repairmen refused to work in the house. The maid quit. Finally, they couldn't take the stench any longer, and decided they had to move, but a month later - even though they'd cut their price in half - they couldn't find a buyer for such a stinky house. Word got out, and eventually even the local realtors refused to return their calls. Finally, unable to wait any longer for a purchaser, they had to borrow a huge sum of money from the bank to purchase a new place. Then the ex called the woman and asked how things were going. She told him the saga of the rotting house. He listened politely and said that he missed his old home terribly and would be willing to reduce his divorce settlement in exchange for having the house. Knowing he could have no idea how bad the smell really was, she agreed on a price that was only 1/10 th of what the house had been worth ... but only if he would sign the papers that very day. He agreed, and within two hours her lawyers delivered the completed paperwork. A week later the woman and her boyfriend stood smiling as they watched the moving company pack everything to take to their new home . . . . . . and to spite the ex-husband, they even took the curtain rods!...See MoreHow to get rid of old house smell- 1976 house
Comments (18)I just saw your problem while looking for something else. Two years ago we bought a beauty MCM house in central Florida. It was redone poorly by a 'House Flipper'. The house was inspected by a supposedly well known company. As soon as move in, I could smell an off smell. A new metal roof had been put on over the old shingle roof.... At the time due to a family member dying the option of having the house taken back by seller and getting money back and getting reimbursement from Home Inspection was offered by a local lawyer after he had another company inspect the house. Unfortunately that was just the wrong time to do that- the timing was just too much. The roof had a small leak one week after moving in which the roofer supposedly repaired. About 6 months ago the roof leaked again- around 3 sides of the chimney by the original leak. I had a different roofer come out. He called the county inspection dept who came out and were very disgusted that one of their people had passed the roofing inspection. The original roofer was notified and was extremely mad that the second roofer would have the 'audacity' to call county out. Long story short- the old roof leaked and the 'House Flipper/roofer tried to cover up the old wet roof without removing it and places on new roof not done properly. That old damaged wood from prior wet caused a musky/slightly moldy? smell. County made roofer do repairs correctly. I thank the second roofer who came out and started the ball rolling and did not try to scam me. I know who NOT/DO USE on next house ... Maybe you have wood that was/is wet somewhere??...See MoreUser
