I like the pewter grey. I think it would go well with most siding colors.

If it's at all possible, get actual samples. We just chose our Hardie siding and metal roof, and the colors combos we loved online were not what we ended up with. Looked totally different in person. Also they have some new colors that our contractor did not have samples of so I ordered them direct from Hardie. Having said that, how stressful for you to have to pick one without the other! Tough decision!

i agree this must be stressful to make such a quick decision. I don't think I would want to do tan colour siding on the house. Tan is often a pinky beige. Ours is taupe and I don't love it. Beige with pink undertones in it (usually described as tan) can be problematic as it tends to clash with other beiges. It you are lost, check out Maria Killam's website. She writes lots about the problems with pinky beige.

As per the roof, of the options pictured above by Omelet, I really like the Pewter grey. The other grey is too light and may show streaking over time. The Weatheredwood is nice, but puts you more in the category of going earthy toned siding. I just prefer black or grey roofs, so I am biased.

You definitely need to narrow down your siding options, before finalizing on the roof. You need first of all to decide if you want cool toned sidings (grey family), earthy (taupes, browns, tans) or very neutral (white or cream which goes great with black roof shingles).

There is an online colour expert who charges I believe $25.00 to answer colour questions (she is very good at exterior colours). Her name is Barbara Meglis and I have linked her site below (I have no association with her, but have used her servies). She responded to our colour questions very quickly (less than 24 hours). For peace of mind, you want to run your final siding/roof choices by her.

Color coach

Thanks so much for the quick responses. It is very stressful and to top it off, we're moving today so that's really our current focus. Seems like everyone likes the pewter. I agree that the oyster looks too light. The weathered wood is pretty if we do a tan. I asked for samples but hardi seems to only send 3 at a time and they haven't arrived yet. Our supplier has samples for me to see today but not all the colors, so that's unfortunate!! Do you think the pewter would look ok with the mid to darker blues or greys? I will check out killams site and try to write to the expert but since I'm in a car now and it's a weekend, not sure if I can get her to do anything in time! Sounds like everyone prefers pewter over charcoal? It seems like the safest choice

Just to clarify, I do like the charcoal. I picked pewter as my favourite from the ones pictured by Omelet. We went with Charcoal (not sure if it is the same Charcoal as it is sold under another brand here in Canada). It all depends on your siding choice, unfortunately. If you are thinking a blue/grey for the siding (which would be lovely) than you are in the right direction with Charcoal or Pewter - but it sure would be nice to know the siding first. The colour expert's blog I mentioned that speaks of the downside of tans (she calls them pinky beige) is below. Her name is Maria Killam. The other one I linked above (Called the Color Coach) may very well give you an answer by the end of the weekend. Given your limited time, I would contact the Color Coach (linked in my post above) and then read up on Maria's blog at a later date. Trust me that Maria would say to proceed carefully if you go the tan route (she doesn't like tan as she finds it clashes easily with other neutral colours).

Oh no. That is a horrible feeling (even though it's awesome they are ahead of schedule). What will happen if you ask them for a couple of days to think this through? They finished much faster than anticipated so I'd hope you'd have a couple of days. I realize the fall weather is upon you but it's a huge decision and the shingles and siding should be chosen together. I would think you'd pick the siding color first and then match the roof to it. I would hate to make this large of a decision in a rush while moving.

Do you know if you want a neutral vs. a color for siding? Do you want a blue like your elevation photo shows?

We went with weathered wood and have a greige siding. It does have a lot of variation in it so it works well. We saw a house we loved the color of and asked them what they used - they were acquaintances so I felt comfortable doing so and I loved the color that much.

Is there a picture or house you have in mind that you could find out the color?

Just think of this like you're wardrobe, where your roof is the shoe and the siding is the suit..

Everything works with a black shoe. EVERYTHING!

Personally I like the Williamsburg Slate because it picks up hints of other colors in it so it seems like it might be more versatile.

We went with Weathered Wood on ours and just for an example on how well it goes with various colors, one of the subdivisions that our builder builds in only allows Weathered Wood on the houses built there...they are very committed to that roof color! We like it and think it is versatile and goes great with our color scheme!
