I'm looking at some things on Craigslist but when I click on the sellers link to send them an email, Outlook opens. Jane, Whenever I am on a website where I click on their link to send them an email, my outlook express always opens with their addy after the To: So what I do is: I highlight THEIR address, click copy, and paste it after To: in my separate g-mail web account to write to them from there. I never use my OE to respond to any website when OE pops up. OR------If you have like I do, (my g-mails accessed in my OE) while in Outlook express, I leave as is and just change the OE address of mine to my webmail address as if I am writing from g-mail. Windows Mail is what they call Outlook Express in Vista and it can be set up with your internet provider very easily and then you could use it as the default. Just call your provider and they walk you thru it. Or just click on it in "all programs" and it has a set up program built in if you know the info it asks for. I have Yahoo mail and Hot mail, etc. and I have never been able to get any to set up as the default as you are asking. All my email thru online addresses go thru Windows Mail (OE). If you figure out how to do it differently, please post back as I'd like to know too.

grandms, I think that was the answer I was looking for. But keep in mind that the e-mails that you get on Windows Live Mail will not download to OE also. I do know that if you are in a certain mail account when you are receiving mail, it lands at the account you have open provided you have those accounts allowed in and you can not get them again. Example: If I was in Windows Live Hotmail and mail is coming in, when I close out and go to OE, the mail that came in while WLH was open to receive them, those mails will not show up in OE then as they would have had I not had WLH mail open. But, I am assuming Windows Live Mail will not associate with OE at all from what DA posted? (Thanks DA for your time spent. Didn't mean for you to have to do that) Thank you too RC, will go back and check your url out. I am afraid to open my Hotmail account because of that incident I had (don't trust hotmail) and tried to change that addy to gmail here for Garden Web but GW won't let me so I may be missing email replies to me if sent there from here.

All my other Inboxes, etc. are within separate acct folders. I.E., each other acct. contains an Inbox, Drafts, Sent, etc. - outside of "Local Folders." Anyway, there's a good chance that after you create an IMAP acct., the email that you have already downloaded using POP mail, and deleted from the server - won't show up in the IMAP Inbox. You'd have to import them back in. Just to be safe, I would export all your email first so that you have it as backup. Then make new accts as IMAP. See if everything looks correct, or if you need to import anything from the backup you just made. Finally, delete the POP accts. There is a really handy addon tool for TB : ImportExportTools https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/importexporttools/?src=search (That page looks complicated, but the use of the tool is not) The two different ways to export using that tool are - (and you get to the choices by right clicking on "Inbox" or any other folder) : 1) "Export folder" (w/ or w/o structure) This makes an Mbox file of everything that you export. It makes for just a few simple files that aggregate everything within the respective folders. So you will end up w/ one Inbox file, one Drafts file, etc. "Structure" just means you will keep the nested structure of the folders. The disadvantage is that you can't read them later w/o importing them back first (using ImportExportTools). 2) "Export all Messages" (and choose "eml" format here) This exports each email as a .eml file - and you can identify and read each one separately later after exporting. So if you export 500 emails, you'll get 500 .eml files. You can batch import them though using ImportExportTools. And you can read them just by clicking on them individually. There's no harm in exporting both ways if you like. Just create separate folders so you can keep it all straight. Play around with it a bit until you get the hang of it. For all the people recommending this way to do email or that - this debate has been going on for years. There are advantages and disadvantages to each - it really depends on your needs. I wouldn't say that any one of them is "unusual" as someone commented - what's unusual to one is likely normal to someone else. Personally I use them all, and all for different purposes - no one method seems to work for every purpose. I do use web based email for the most part though.
