Comments (14)I've got to go to the dollar tree! Thank you Karen for reposting that site. i had a lot of fun looking. Prices are tricky. How much should a crafts person de-value their time? Which includes searching for the right supplies (not to mention paying for them), experimenting and failing until they figure out the right whatever, and then making the actual items that are for sale. Storing said items, writing up and producing information, transporting them, setting up instore (where they don't get full price) or craft show etc etc. I'm a bit overwhelmed at the idea of it all. It seems like you need to charge a much as people are willing to pay. Some items will be more of a profit than others. Making things for yourself or gifts to friends is different. A friend who saw pics of the mosaic lamp I gave dd said she might want to commission one. I'm totally flattered of course, but I may just give her one as a house warming gift. I don't think I could ask her for the true value. Sorry, this is a whole other subject really. Trading with other crafts people is a good way around it. I never respond.....my political views are not in line with hers....but because she is a client I don't want to risk alienating her by becoming combatant about politics. What I can't understand is why some people want to inflict their views on everyone else. If you respect me as a person please respect me as an individual who can make my own mind up about various issues and who to vote and support. Nobody is 100 percent correct or 100 percent wrong....but it really irritates me that someone tries to belittle my beliefs....directly or indirectly. I have had to bite my tongue many times. Perhaps not saying something insuniates I'm in this person's camp? I don't know...but there is a reason people say not to talk about politics or religion among associates. It can only bring bad blood and scuffles to the surface. Oh, and by the way....I voted for Bush the first time around and not the second. And I don't miss him at all. Not to say the new guy is perfect either...but it would behoove this country to try to work together on issues to solve them without all of this us vs. them mentality. That gets absolutely nothing accomplished. Duane...See MoreOMG- I am burnt out already!!! Please help
Comments (12)Have you looked into Amish cabinet makers near you? You could try Google for that (search first in your area and then if you're within 150 miles or so from any Amish country, like eastern PA, search in that area). If Google doesn't help then call Mullet Cabinet in Ohio and see if they can point you to any Amish near you. It is a little known secret but Amish people literally have phone books (or I guess I should say address books) that list every Amish person and business in the United States. And probably Canada too. You could also contact an Amish furniture dealer in your area, if you know of one, and ask them (1) if they do cabinets and (2) if not, can they recommend anyone. Amish have almost no overhead costs, so their cabinets are amazingly inexpensive, considering how good the quality is and the fact that it's totally custom. On my quote they were cheaper than Home Depot, and way better. They quoted ceiling-height maple cabinets (solid doors/drawers, plywood boxes) for a 10.5x17-foot kitchen, including a six-foot peninsula and cabinets around the fridge, at just under $11,500, plus around $2500 for installation (evidently the Amish can have non-Amish people drive them and the cabinets to your house to do the install, or else they use non-Amish installers). I think they said cherry or oak would've been about 20-25% more, which is still a totally reasonable cost. Here is a link that might be useful: Mullet Cabinet - Amish in Ohio...See MoreDonna-37
