Do your double wall sconces give off heat?
Comments (7)Our sconces have 75W halogens in them (they give off the same amt. of light as a 100 watt incandescent light bulb) I do not notice any heat coming from them when I near them brushing teeth or applying make-up. I know the bulbs get hot to the touch. The fluorescents stay cool and come in a bunch of hues, as do some LEDs and there are "daylight" ones too but they looked purplish in our bathroom. You can always put lower wattage bulbs into a fixture, but you cannot go higher than they are rated. The specs on each fixture will tell you how many watts are max. Ours have Edison sockets and we tried 5 different bulb set ups to get the right color and brightness. It ain't easy. Our bathroom lights don't stay on for hours like the ones in our family room so heat doesn't really figure into our equation. When we replaced the 18 recessed (halogen) can lights in the family room and kitchen with LEDs, our electric bill dropped in half, and the room is noticeably cooler. -Babka...See MoreChange of window plans, help please?
Comments (22)Thanks! I think I need to decide on the shelves and lighting in concert. If it do the double sconces in each side of the window, then I probably would not do shelves. If I do sconces above the windows, then I probably would do shelves. (I have a hard time making decisions in isolation.) I think maybe one thing I need to decide is whether there would be too much wall space above the windows. And if there is, would that be best addressed by putting wall mount sconces up there to "fill" the space? That might lead to doing shelves to fill the wall space. The other alternative I have thought of is to address the wall space above the windows by putting up a valance. But I'm not sure I want a valance. It might be too much stuff going on in a small kitchen. But if there is not too much wall space above the window then I think I could more reasonably choose to put sconces on each side of the window. I really appreciate all the input. "Talking" this through is very helpful for me!...See MoreI was thinking about buying a few for home what do you think

Any idea what kind of sconce uses these?
Comments (6)They are clock outlets. You hang your clock on the hook and plug it into the outlet. They allow your clock to hang nice and flush to the wall. I’ve never seen the used for sconces. You can simply remove them and hang any sconce you choose on the electrical box these outlets are mounted on....See Moreagk2003
