Nope, no way, nada, not happening! Thankfully, I've never had to worry about washing too often. I mean, I try and not run small loads, but I have lots and lots of underwear and can wash as often as needed.

Eeek, I would have trotted that girl to the store to pick out several more pairs of underwear.

She did buy her more undies.

I will say that washing opportunities were not all that available in her country.

I have a friend whose mother taught them "camping underwear" for when the family was, in fact, camping, with no washing facilities. You wear your underwear 2 days, then turn it inside out and wear it for two more days.

Just one more reason why I do not camp.

That's how a lot of boy scouts did it when DS went to camp. He came home with that new "skill". LOL

I have worn undershirts inside out, but not for thrift. It was to put that little annoying neck tag on the outside to keep it from tickling and scratching my neck.

Speaking of neck tags, I found out, while performing reading service for a blind student, that the only reliable way he could tell which side was out on his T-shirts was to feel for the neck tag.

Ew.

You can extend it more, if you use panti liners. ;)

I would imagine that in some areas of the world--even our area--wearing the same underwear for only two days in a row is a luxury.

My son had to have several packages of white briefs for boot camp. He has not worn that style since he was a child, so when he brought the briefs home in his duffel, I washed them, put them in a plastic bag labeled 'Clean white briefs size ___', and dropped them off at the homeless shelter. I figured clean, slightly used, underwear would be appreciated by someone who didn't have funds or easy access to a laundry.

Underwear can be washed and hung to dry overnight.....ya know.....

My DH was sent to camp for two months in summer, starting at age seven or eight. When his parents visited after the first month, his mother checked his clothing and discovered that all of his underpants were still in a pile in a drawer -- and the pile was home to a family of mice!

I guess that's why some people go commando! Which is an ewww to me. My mom taught us girls fresh clean undies no other options! Even with our pj's. I however now always wear pants pj's, not gowns, so I don't mind taking a break from the undies.

I sure never camped that way lol. I have several new packages that are always in the RV for emergency options should I forget to pack some lol.

In some cultural circumstances it's understandable their methods would differ greatly from ours. It's their norm.

On a side note - I was extremely surprised to learn that (way back in the day) many women didn't wear underwear with pantihose. My mother instilled in me that a lady always wore underwear. Even to bed.

Anyone remember Underalls? They were pantihose with an actual built in panty top, so you could wear them without underpants and eliminate panty lines. I used to love them. And I washed them after each wearing, of course.

As long as you treat pantyhose or whatever you're wearing on bottom like underwear, no problem.

I may wear mine for multiple days, on occasion - but not turned inside out.

Some time ago I read that a Jockey survey of men in the UK. It showed that most men owned three pair: One on; one in the wash; one 'spare'.

I can barely get all of DH's shorts into his dresser drawer! I'm sure there are more than a dozen.

I can't imagine wearing pantyhose without underwear, although I knew that some did. How did they stand it, with the seam???

I've read on other message boards that some women go commando when they wear long dresses......no panty-lines to worry about.

Whenever I spend a night away from home, I wash my undies in the bathroom sink and hang them overnight to dry.

Washing undies and hanging overnite to dry is easy for us women, but men's are quite a bit heavier, cotton. They wouldn't dry overnite.

Underwear with pantyhose? Really? Isn't that what the "panty" part means? No, I've never heard of doubling up with underwear/panties. I've never seen pantyhose with a seam ... there's always a cotton "triangle" in the middle part.

Funny story about my DGD. She was 5 at the time and had just had a shower. I gave her clean panties to wear. She got dressed and much to my dismay she was wearing her clean panties on her head. I told her to go put on her panties. She came back wearing the dirty one, clean one still on her head. So I told her to put the clean ones on to which she responded, "You can wear them for several days." I told her she couldn't do that. She said, "Well, it's not like it's going to ruin your life!" I told her, "If you get stinky enough it will!" I finally won the battle and she changed.

I can think of plenty of other things to get disturbed about. Kids don't get it at that age--they don't like to bathe, brush their teeth or hair, even change their clothes. They don't care until they become interested in the opposite sex (at least that was the struggle I had with my two little slobs) They are very clean twenty somethings today. When my son was in college I discovered he never washed his sheets all year! Now that's disturbing.

By 5, a child knows routine and if that routine is reusing dirty underwear, then that's disgusting.

I taught my four girls to wear clean panties each day. I hung my wash on a clothesline and astonished my elderly neighbor by the many panties hung out each week. When I got a dryer it was much easier.

I think it's sort of insulting or at least short-sighted to say that doing what needs to be done is cultural.

To me, cultural means something we choose to do, while conserving water is something you have to do.

Mimipadv, Savannah was just messing with me. She has a wicked sense of humor and a huge imagination. She just thought it was amusing to wear underwear for a hat. She can spin a yarn too. One day her other Grandmother was asking her what her Mama was cooking? Savannah loves to watch cooking shows and likes to cook. Nana, not so much. So Savannah told her and Nana asked what was in it. Savannah knew what was in it but she told Nana all this long list of ingredients including a bunch of stuff that wasn't in the dish. She knew Nana wouldn't know the difference. She was totally convincing and really had Nana going. We all had a good laugh when Nana found out she'd been "had".

Nope, never wore underwear with my pantyhose. Never wore underwear under my p.j,'s or nightgown. I do wear clean underwear every day. Every time I watch Survivor I mentally cringe at what they were and how long they have to wear it. Washing clothes must be difficult under the circumstances. Is this all just for T.V.? What does on behind the scenes? Do they have a chance then to really wash their clothes with soap? I'd hate to spend a month in the wilds with just the clothes on my back or maybe one change. Interesting that their clothes don't really look that dirty. What do you think?

Men and women are different. Women, as you all know, don't dirty their underwear the same as men! On a good day, no big deal; however, there are some weeks that it just doesn't work out as planned.

I wear boxers and turning them inside out does some goofy things with the waist band that make them uncomfortable. Women don't have that problem with the waist band.

Now t-shirts are a different matter. On a regular basis, if I am not going anywhere, I'll wear the same t-shirt for a couple of days. After all, it's just the cat and the missus and they are accustomed to my ways of doing things. In the summer, when I am outside doing my gardening, I might use three (3) t-shirts in one day. I sweat and the dirt clings to them. Into the pile they go and hopefully they won't rot before laundry day!

Even used a hotel hairdryer to hasten the drying of undies.

Having said that, remember the saying "always wear clean underwear in case you're in an accident..." In the ER, I take care of many people who were in accidents, never really notice their underwear. Oh, I take that back, one guy had his undies stuffed with rolls of $100 bills; he was a drug dealer who was shot. Imagine our surprise when we cut off his clothes.

I have on numerous occasions been forced to wear my undies for more than one day and while I normally don't....I never found a reason with the panties I had already worn to go Ewwwwwwwww.

Oh .... I thought he meant that men dirty their underwear MORE than women. Gotcha.

Old men - some of them, at least, learn that though they may not have been in that habit earlier, it's a good idea to sit down to pee ...

... for them dang sphincters seem to gang up on one: what's good for one often gets to be good for the other at the same time, as well.
