Experience with Caesarstone?

I'm hoping to do a small reno on my teeny kitchen soon. I want quartz countertops, and the color I've found that I like best so far is the Caesarstone espresso from the Classic collection, and I want honed.

Older threads here (2008, '09) have some comments about Caesarstone chipping just by being hit by a small bowl. Does anyone know if the quality of Caesartsone quartz has improved or what the current quality is? I thought quartz is supposed to be practically bomb proof.

Any insight or first-hand recent experience would be much appreciated.

I love mine (London Grey). No problems here. It was just installed in June but my kitchen gets decent amount of use daily peppered with intense sessions. I didn't want something that I would have to baby. I have two countertops in my kitchen, the island has Silestone. I also have Ceasarstone in all my bathrooms.

Hope that helps a bit.

I have Caesarstone in my kitchen. Installed in early 2012 and not a chip or ding anywhere. I have a positive reveal around my sink and an eased edged throughout.

I thought you couldn't hone Quartz, or at least it would void the warranty.

The matte finish can be a little harder to look after and can fingerprint more. Though having said that if you use the right cleaning products and NOT necessary the ones that Caesarstone recommend - Please check that they products DO NOT VOID their own warranty... you will not have an issue. We know that our products will make the matte finishes NOT FINGERPRINT on any brand or color

Does anyone have experience with Caesarstone Piatra Grey?

I am thinking of going with Piatra gray for my kitchen countertops. I was trying to decide between that and Raven. The Piatra seems like to be a bit lighter and a slightly warmer gray that it could so with both hardwoods and/or stainless steel and white. Some times of the day I lean towards one but later the other. Any photos of the Piatra Gray in your kitchen would be appreciated!

Came across this because I am considering putting clamshell in my kitchen and want to know what group it fell into. I am a little surprised at some of the prices I have seen listed here. We just had Cambria Ironsbridge put in for two countertops in our masterbath, one in our hall bath, and a double sink counter in the kids bath, all with backsplashes and under mount sinks included for $4600. The slab itself was just under $2400 and came with the all the paperwork and warranty info. I can’t imagine Ceaserstone being that much more expensive. Before settling on the Cambria (for bathrooms)we visited showrooms for Cambria, Ceaserstone, and Silestone. Reps at all three made a point to tell us that matte/honed/textured quartz require more maintenance and care on what is set down on them. For us, polished is the way to go.

Caesarstone Countertops, Silestone, Soapstone - What's the difference?

Silestone, Caesarstone, and similar are what is known as "engineered stone". They consist of crushed up quartz and resin mixed together. They're mostly quartz (95% or so), but there is a small percentage of resin (5% or so) mixed in to hold it all together. Soapstone is a type of stone that is quarried directly from the earth and is sold in slabs -- the same as granite, marble, etc. It can be relatively soft (compared to engineered stone & most granites), but it can be sanded to "fix" scratches -- one of the nice features of soapstone. You probably saw and worked on it in the science labs at school. Many people have soapstone and love it. You will find many threads on the Kitchens Forum about soapstone. In particular, look for posts by Florida_Joshua, he's a soapstone fabricator who used to post here frequently to help those with questions. Both types of counters are good choices, it just depends on what you like. (There are also many threads about engineered stone/quartz.)

Some quartzes come honed but you can't just hone any color.

I wouldn't use it in your kitchen with renters. A lot of people just aren't familiar with quartz and treat it like tile and granite. They don't know enough not to put hot pans on the counter. It will happen, it will scorch the counter, and it won't be repairable.

Ours is Wild Rice, installed July 2014 and we love it. No chips, and although I wouldn't say I baby it, I try to be careful. I use a lot of cast iron and I've accidentally "clanked" it around the sink, but so far so good. Our edge is also slightly eased.
