I'm probably in the minority, I don't like those half-sized paper towels. Kirkland went that way now. When I want a full sheet, the sheets always tear at the half-size. I find them so frustrating.

I love the half sheets from Kirkland, pretty much all I ever seem to need for one use.

My Mom used to tear full sheets in half back in the '50s and 60's, we thought she was silly...actually just way ahead of her time :)

When I have the half sheets I'm annoyed because I want the full one and they tear off small. When I have full sheets, I'm annoyed at the waste because I need half. My paper towel holder doesn't have ratchets or anything, but usually tears fine... Except for the current roll! Even if I stand there with dry hand and hold on both sides of the perf, and TRY, it follows path of least resistance about 2/3 of the way down, and follows the grain (which is lenthwise, like newsprint, no matter how often know-it-alls tell me it doesn't have grain). FEH!

Jakkom, congrats on erecting your gadget. I hope it gives you many years of frustration free paper towels.

Before the half sheets came out I was always tearing off corners here and there. Love the half sheets, to the point where I recently bought a regular package by accident and gave it to my parents because I didn't want it. I think I'd actually be happiest if the rolls weren't perforated at all, and instead relied on a tear-off blade.

Anyway, I hate the space that my stand-up holder takes up on the counter, and it always seems to get grungy. Think I might "splurge" on this one based on your recommendation.

Have a wall mounted SimpleHuman holder in the laundry room and a Cuisipro on the kitchen counters. LOVE the half sheet towels! Wish I could break myself of the paper towel habit, but not interested in the alternative of accumulating a stack of towels I have to wash every day.

I seldom use paper towels, but I do use them for some things. I have a stack of cheap "bar towels" that I got at Sam's Club, they're white. I use them for everything and then toss them in the washer, they can be bleached when they're horrible. I do use paper towels for things like wiping up chicken juice or picking up eggs when I drop them on the floor, which I seem to do more and more, this blasted carpal tunnel is bothersome lately. I'll also use a damp paper towel to wipe up the remaining shards when I drop a glass or jar and break it, which I also seem to do regularly. (sigh)

I also have a countertop paper towel holder and hate the darned thing. It takes space and I'm always knocking it over or pulling it across the counter trying to get a single sheet. Grrr.

I guess I'm in the minority, I don't care whether they are half or whole perforated, I usually make a big enough mess that I need at least two, whichever size!

I need a cupboard mounted one, but first Elery has to heal up and then I need 4 more lights installed, the island finished, a couple more shelves in my cabinets and the master bath finished. Then, maybe, a paper towel holder, LOL. I HATE home repair/remodeling to the point that I don't even want to put a paper towel holder up right now!

Why buy paper towels? Just steal napkins from McDonald's! ( Kidding :-). Have not been to McDonald's in ages. )

I buy the best paper towels when they are on sale, then two seconds on my table saw, I cut some to exact width I need.

A kitchen knife can also easily cut a roll in any width you want in seconds.

I really like the COSTCO half sheet ones. I don't think I have ever had one tear sideways half way thru. I agree that they do have sideways grain. That is good. It means that you can tear that half sheet into one or more extra small pieces if you wish.

annie: of course your health insurance might be limiting, but I had carpal tunnel issues and the surgery was really easy, effective and left no scar that I can find 10 years later. The surgeon had said (or perhaps I misunderstood) pain would be minimal to non-existant. I agree that pain was minimal in the next week considering it was real surgery, but there was annoying pain for several months afterwards. Not bad pain; just more than I expected. Well worth the effort.

Jasdip, you are not alone. I don't like the half sheets either.

Dcarch, that's what my father used to do to make scratch pads! I never thought of cutting the roll crosswise. :)

I average less than one paper towel per week, but the rest of my household likes them for this and that. Still, one of those big packages, 10?, generally lasts more than a year. We don't go though clothes like we used to, however, so I had to steel my nerves and actually buy rags a couple of years ago!

Actually, I think the ratchet papertowel holder would probably work for full sheets too. It holds it just enough that it tears at the perforations - no matter where they are.

Thanks, chas, I probably should talk to the doc once again. When my symptoms first became severe enough to go to the doc, it was at least 15 years ago. At that point I was told that surgery was successful "30 percent of the time" and that if I didn't stop doing what caused it, it would just come back. In addition, he said I had de Quervain's something-or-another, something that is apparently common to professional pool players, which I am absolutely not, LOL. Since I had a secretary on leave for her third hand surgery, I opted for exercise, a brace and NSAIDS. And that's what I have done ever since....

I'm sure things have changed a lot since then, I ought to get back to that ortho guy. Right after Elery's hip replacement is all healed up!
