Thanks everyone! Well I've only baked one thing - gyro meat stuffed in a loaf pan sitting in a water bath. Way to test for oven for evenness, huh? LOL! Oh yeah, and I reheated some pizza. The bad news is I'm getting an off smell - kind of like a burny-melty smell. I can't imagine it's anything other than the fact that it's packed in there tight to the walls without the required airspace. I really don't think there's anything wrong with the oven as the guy even called me back to see how it worked out. So...this means more cabinet modification than I already did. Fortunately the stack is at the end of a run and there's room to spare, so I'll just run some plywood floor-to-soffit about two inches to the right, cut out the existing cabinet in the oven space, put in new shelves, make a dummy face frame. Gawd this thing is sounding uglier by the minute, huh? I guess at least it'll be fully in the hole instead of sticking out as it does now. It really shouldn't be that big of a project, but if you saw the state of my house you'd understand why I'm not particularly happy about spending the time and effort on a temporary fix like. If I could edit my first post I'd change it to, "My new oven doesn't fit...what a PITA."

Did someone say something to make her feel not welcome? Personally, I enjoy ALL of the photos posted here. I don't think it is a contest to see who takes the best photos, but instead to share what we take photos of, and new ideas on what and how to take pictures. I always get ideas on taking pictures from other posters here, and I enjoy seeing what I see in these photos since much of it is so far away from here and I like to see other parts of the country/world. The photo above is excellent, especially the depth of field, which brings the focus on the couple IN the photo and softens the background. The lighting is also very impressive, something that doesn't come easily to me. Once, again, I don't judge pictures here as if they were in some kind of competition. I view them to enjoy what others have and see in their lives. Gmom74, you also have a nice picture there. Nice rose! Is that a hydrangea to the left of the rose?? Kt

Thank you all. I did try, as Randy suggested, readjusting the collar, but never could make the flapper fall consistently. I guess the chain lifting it shifted it slightly with every use until it was cockeyed. I didn't put the silicone grease on it (forgot to buy it) but I think I should have some around anyway so I'll get some. What I ultimately did, and what seems to be working for the moment at least, was to buy a Flushmaster kit, yank out the the old chrome one that was in there, and follow the instructions: clean, clean, clean, dry, orient unit, press firmly, hook up chain. The old one was in the toilet 40 years ago when we moved in here, and if this one survives half that long it'll outlast me! The kit doesn't depend on the collar on the overflow tube but has the "ears". It's an integral unit so the fit should be good. I'm a little wary of plastic, but when it's good it's good, it cost $7.22 @ Big Box Store, and if it saves us wrestling that valve out of there I won't complain! I really appreciate the help and suggestions- you guys are great.

Orec3 - I actually really love your sideboard/hutch combo. I don’t think the brown-ness of the wood takes away from your kitchen. Your dining room is perfect as it is. If you want some whiteness from the kitchen and truly want wainscoting, the wainscoting alone should solve your problem. Everything else would just be gravy. Just my two cents!
