Do you love your breakfast nook, should I?
Comments (31)So I went ahead and ordered it. I couldn't resist bc I had a 15% off code. It took about 6 weeks to get here bc I had them use the Sunbrella fabric (in taupe) vs a stocked option. It came to just under 2grand after the discount. I'm liking it right now but I'm not sure I'll keep it once my boys get older. It takes up a lot of space. Very well made though and the extra storage in each bench is fantastic. Now I'm trying to figure out what to put on the wall above it. Eventually that wall will come down. Thank you for all the help and advice that was given. I figured id come back and show the final product. Please ignore the comically thick seat cushion. I had one made to match the bench but didn't realize that the "luxury padding" would be so thick. I'm going to have a thinner one made....See MoreNeed Advice on Luxury Kitchen and Breakfast Nook Remodel Design
Comments (301)So after following along and reading and reading all the good advice and then OP's responses I did myself wonder a couple times (with a few head slaps really????) - are you reading AND THINKING about the advice posted or just posting more "I am totally out of control help me right now" questions that seemed to not take into consideration any of the advice. It was more I have to have 10', I have to have it large, I have to have it.....HELP regardless of the solutions posted. I kind of started to wonder if you are a college student in design school trying to get someone to draw up a kicking design for your homework assignment and it was the 11th hour. But I am no design expert just a learner myself. If nothing else there are some good designs in this thread with lots of elements that many would enjoy (well maybe not the topiary IN the kitchen). Oh wait a minute - THE TOPIARY IS THE SHRINE! You are all set!...See MoreNew breakfast nook table
Comments (42)My orchid has been converted! Ever since Pal mentioned about not leaving the centerpiece in the center all the time, I put the orchid on a trivet and every morning I move it to a different spot on the table. So it's now either a Wandering Jew or a Roamin' Catholic! :)...See MoreHow to get rid of a breakfast nook?
Comments (35)Thanks artemis_ma and Architectrunnerguy. Sorry for the misunderstanding. I think we were just coming from different places, and I didn't give enough info for you (or anyone) to fully understand why I was asking what I was asking. We know what we want our house to look like, and we know how we want it to feel. We know we want an Acadian style home reminiscent of a low-country or southern coastal cottage. We want porches. We want a central gallery. We want windows and doors that we can open to let the breeze in. We want it to feel like the historic homes we've toured in southern Louisiana and Galveston, but function like a modern home. We are building on my family's land. A 50+ acre former rice farm/cattle ranch in SE Texas. Our house will be built right in front of the house I grew up in. My aunt lives in the front pasture, my uncle just to the north, and my other aunt just beyond that. My sister is building just across the road. This is my inspiration. Side note: I've been drooling over this house since it was built and finally worked up the nerve to knock on the door. The owner graciously gave me a tour, and said she had done the same thing about 2 decades ago. I hated her layout, but still love the look. Anyway, I asked the question about the nook because literally everyone I know who has ever built a house say that their #1 advice is to not build a house that is too big. They all feel that they have too much house. We have 2 small children and are hoping to have 1 more. I know the kids wont live in this house forever, but I will. I am drawn to the plan I posted because it generally has what we want. I'm not committed to the dimensions etc. We are just using it as a jumping off point....See MoreBuildinginTN
