Comments (10)I meant to say thank you, conifers/Dax, and I should've thanked you for the book reference as well, rather than Resin. Sorry. I very obviously hadn't had enough coffee when I made that post this morning. Anyway, after I looked his book up I saw Jacobson's name again tonight, in a flyer laying on my desk--he's a speaker at this year's ACS national conference in Seattle. Comments (16)my photo is a bit dark.. because i was shooting from below into a bright cloudy sky ... and because with my card reader problems.. i dont have a photo editor on the laptop which will read the camera card.. so i couldnt adjust contrast.. regardless.. its still pretty ok on my screen.. so perhaps your monitor is a bit on the dark side... as to DS vs emerald green aka smargard ... its all about form .. and growth rate ... smar's planted 10 years ago. are still squat plants.. that have gone from about 4 to 8 feet .... fat and chubby ... DS is obviously much more inclined to grow straight up ... faster ... and thinner ... otherwise .. they are both green arbs with similar needle shape ... ken...See MoreMy DeGroote Spire was somebody's snack...
Comments (5)Yes, I'll have to keep an eye on it and fence it in if necessary. This Spring I planted 10, 2' arborvitae along the property line. I'm planning to put chicken wire around the whole bunch and not just individually. Their spacing will make that possible. I have a mixed shrub border in this same area that includes some shrubs that are at least 4 or 5 years old, and I still have to surround them with protection. Rabbits continue to nibble at the trunks and snip off branches, esp. during deep snows. Towards the end of November is when I usually start this chore....See MoreDegroot's Spire Cedars or Skyrocket Junipers?
Comments (8)i would immediately hang an outdoor curtain ... or some such.. that you could release.. when you want to use the tub ... https://duckduckgo.com/?q=outdoor+patio+curtain&t=ffcm&iax=images&ia=images and then i would plant single leader de groots ... so that in 10 or 15 years ... when the curtain rots ... the trees will be all set ... i call that tree time.. and usually compare it to our instant gratification world .. as with trees.. there really isnt any short of a massive check book all of my skyrocket types... got unwieldy once they started putting on size... and they would quickly take up too much space ... especially if snow load is possible ... basically.. i ended up getting rid of all of them.. long before they would give you privacy ... you get much better info on the WWW using the proper latin names .... i'll start you with the juniper ... and try to look at the older ones.. not the pretty blue babes ... ken https://duckduckgo.com/?q=Juniperus+virginiana+%22Skyrocket%22&t=ffcm&ia=images&iax=images...See MoreBarbara Teusink
