pawprint how about hydrogen peroxide? Some sites suggest that and also say that bleach kills some mold but not all. Bleach just makes it invisible but it is still there. Hydrogen peroxide supposedly kills the yucky stuff. Good Luck!

The ingredients in Crest Whitening Strips, is a form Hydrogen Peroxide, lol ;) Just not as strong as household 3% HP.

On another note... please don't try using HP straight on your teeth. I did... and I ended up making my gums super dry, and they bled. I looked completely awful for a whole day... right before a date, non the less :P

@Pawprint1, have you tried La's Totally Awesome, in the yellow bottle? It might just work.

Paw, your not going to like what I say, but I recommend you replace the seal. This is what I've learned, if you can see mold than its there. Mold grows roots, they will shoot out and there will be mold growth, could be in places you can't see.there is nothing on the market that I know of that is 100% guarenteed to kill all of the mold roots, if it is mold it would be sending out spores onto your clothing.

Tell me which type of chlorine bleach did you try?

Please don't hate me, the bearer of bad news LOL, I'm only telling you what I was told.

There used to be a spray bath room cleaner--Tilex I think and it said it killed the roots. Maybe was called Tilex Pro-seems to been two versions.

Two things to try, Get some Cascade Liquid(Gel) dishwasher detergent and cover the spot well. Then if you want to lay a paper towel on top of that, then soak the paper towel with the Cascade and let this sit for several hours or do it right before bed and leave it all night. Then remove paper towel and see how well it worked. Might have to repeat.

Second thing is using a bathroom product like the Tilex or which ever as long as it has bleach. Spray it well, then do the paper towel again and respray it with the cleaner. Again leave several hours. Using the spray I would reapply ever so often to keep the towel damp.

You might also try the Clorox Premium Care bleach doing it the same way as above. It is a creamy type so would cling better than liquid regular bleach although regular would be stronger. Just dont leave it on there long enough to damage the gasket since its stronger.(the regular if you decide to use it)

You're right mama. Don't like that answer. I won't replace it because the machine is 8 years old. I've seen them replaced online & it looks like a difficult project. But I appreciate your honesty. :-)

So far I've ran numerous clean washer cycles with bleach or Affresh. I've made a paste with comet & let that sit. Used a magic eraser sponge and scrubbed. I use the generic store brand bleach.

I haven't tried Cascade gel, thick Clorox, Tilex or hydrogen peroxide. I'll start with one and keep going. At one point either the stain will be gone or the rubber gasket will have a hole in it.

I don't believe mold is anywhere else or growing. I've more than killed it, but the stains are tough to remove.

Like I said, I'm extremely paranoid about mold or mildew. I do everything possible to prevent that from happening again.

I'm interested in what will get the stain out. Because... honestly... after all these chemicals and visible scrubbing, it looks like the gasket simply discolored permanently from the mold, which is gone now with only the "scar" remaining.

I made a thick Clorox paste to sit overnight. I have the self clean timer start the washer in 6 hours. Hopefully it won't burn through the rubber boot in 6 hours.

Glad it worked. By using a thick gel or paste you can apply it all around the gasket if it is ever needed. Much better than rubbing and running a bunch of clean cycles which really aren't going to do a lot of good, not for a stain that's embedded.

You aren't worried about all the harsh chemicals degrading the gasket?
