1 drip in my system is overwatering
Comments (1)The drip emitters I have used, had something like a membrane inside. When that ruptured the emitter over watered and could not be repaired....See Moredoes my annual garden need a drip system?
Comments (2)Hi Westover, No disadvantages. Most of the problems with drip is just hooking up to a source and getting enough pressure in the system to operate. Same in your case. Your drip hose or drip tape is doing the same job as the emitters and your drip hose already has even spacing for the outlet holes. Individual placed emitters on separate poly lines just give you more flexibility in placement of the water that is all. If you can put an in-line filter between the source and drip hose that would be better. Drip hoses can get clogged. Good Luck and Aloha....See MoreIntervals for my new drip systems?
Comments (2)bill..I used to run a timer on my toms..30 min on 1 hr off during daylite hours..Now got off the timer and run 24/7.. I grow hydro outside tho..but shouldn't make any difference. As far as the salads planted with the tomatoes..think you may have a problem as far as the nutient strength goes.. I run about 25 ec's on the toms..salads,I think need to be around 10. good growing corky...See MoreDrip System
Comments (4)dghays, my system has been in the ground for 3 years. The 1" tubing is supposed to be flexible enough to withstand water freezing inside. Therefore, I have never flushed or drained the systems, all I do is disconnect the hose. I have had no leaks. The only problems I can cite are: 1) the buried 1" line tends to get heaved up out of the ground in the winter, so this year I'll have to rebury a couple of sections; 2) occasional clogs at the microsprinkler connection, easily cleared as I mentioned above; 3) breakage of the sprinkler spikes...I have 2 or 3 spikes that have broken off at the tip after 3 years. This is easy to fix by cutting off 1/2" of the 1/4" tubing and sticking another sprinkler spike on. This generally happens after I trip on the 1/4" line walking through the garden. I was told by the nurseryman who sold me the parts that ants can make their home in the tubing. For this reason I put a simple hose-type shutoff valve on the end of each line. I close it whenever the hose is not attached, and this seems to work to keep the ants out. Hope that helps. SB...See Moregryhwk2330
