Cypress Canker Origins Identified
Comments (7)That first link is a pretty great explanation of the matter, but I would beg to differ that it is not possible to differentiate between old and new world Cupressus by looking at them alone. Also, Cupressus abramsiana is completely extinguished as a species and lumped into Cupressus goveniana, despite the article by Adams and Bartel which describes abramsiana as a separate (albeit closely related to Goveniana) species, and which describes the Butano Ridge grove as possibly warranting yet another separate species designation. After having seen all of the three "varieties" of goveniana in the wild, I am completely averse to the idea of the Butano trees being classified as a variant of Goveniana - they have much blue-er foliage, the cones are enormous for a Cypress, and they reach massive sizes compared to goveniana. The growth and branching patterns are completely different, as well. What's your take on this, Resin? I guess in the end it doesn't really matter much, but is certainly quite interesting to think about....See MorePlease help identify the Tribe/Origin of 2 Old Indian Blankets

Comments (6)Hmm. I don't think that's really the direction I want to go.. I really do like the picture window. It has a small single-hung on either side of it already - this window is over half of the wall. Some people have converted to SDL bay windows; I like the lots of lites look in single-pane steel windows in a structure where that kind of windows were original, but not the faked-in version some people do to "convert" a picture window. There are some other very MCM elements here, too, and I'm redoing/restoring several rooms to an original 1950s look inside. (Bathrooms still have the original tile and some of the original fixtures, kitchen still has the original cabinets. I even have the original stove and fridge from when the house was built.. not sure if I'll be restoring them too or not.) What direction would I go in if I was trying to go for a more modern take on the Cape? Basically, would casements look TOO out of place in this house? I tend to think they would, except for the basement windows....See More- 8 years ago
