help-don't know where to start
Comments (7)Hi Jodie, A couple of thoughts. First, please take it easy doing this kind of work in summer. Drink alot of liquids and take breaks. Stay cool. It may be the angle of the photos but I hate to say that the bed area looks too small for the scale of those trees. You may want to come out further around the outer perimeter to make the whole garden look more in scale. Stand way back and take a good look. This may be the time to just work on gradual grass removal and putting down some compost and mulch. Then in fall, you could plant some plants. Fall is the best time for the South, usually. You could take this time to study the sun and shade patterns, drainage, etc. It looks very shady there, however, it may be sunny most of the day or have enough sun due to the high branches and the zone you are in. Also are the trees evergreen or deciduous, if oaks they are virtually evergreen. The plants you will need will be different depending on sun/shade, moist/dry conditions, and whether you can or want to water frequently if the plants you choose need that. It is so exciting to put in a garden, and you are probably very anxious to get it done now that you've started, but I hope you will consider some of my suggestions before going too fast. You might then have to move a bunch of plants or lose them. Also you have to consider covering the tree roots with too much mulch, I think 2-4 inches would be the max, but don't quote me on that. Luckily, you have a wealth of info on plants for DFW on the internet once you know the conditions....See MoreTotal lack of inspiration, don't even know where to start!
Comments (24)Patty_cakes, I debated doing the trim in black, but instead went with a nice clean glossy white. I do love black though, so I painted my staircase and foyer in the black and I absolutely love it! I'm leaning towards the idea of painting the bedroom and sitting room furniture black (with crystal knobs..for a little "bling") I adore taupe, and I could easily have painted my whole house in taupe but I am trying to break out of my "taupe shell". I'm halfway through painting the sitting room right now (dark sagey green) and at first I thought it was too dark, but now I'm feeling all cozy in here..and the white trim makes the green pop. I need to find a fabric or drapes for the windows...and definitely need new accessories. My kitchen looks like the Cracker Barrel decorator threw up in there, but it's appropriate for a farm house kitchen and everyone that comes in loves it. I really do want a warm cozy feel for the sitting room and bedroom..but I also want it fresh..maybe not so down-home country (definitely no roosters! lol!) I want to break out of my rut a little...but still stay in my comfort zone also so as not to have the rooms look like they belong in someone else's house! Oh the decisions to make..LOL! If anyone has any suggestions for fabric or drapes for dark sage green walls, that will also maybe bring in blues, reds and golds please share with me, it also needs to go well with bright white trim and black furniture, please share with me!...See MoreI need help redesigning my living room
Comments (35)I am glad you liked it! :) Sorry for the late response, I've tried to think about alternative solution with more passage space. It's not so standard as previous two layouts, but it does give more space and maybe it give you an inspiration with your living room: I've choose the red stools to balance the red chair and to define and highlight central conversation area, but at the same time to keep view at fireplace unblocked (when they are not in use). I had to change color of one chair, since having the chair in the corner in the same red color kept kicking the space out of balance. I don't know if you like that trend of layered rugs, in the case you do, I think it could help in your case to break a bit long, rectangular shape of the room. On the short wall I though buffet with a mirror or art could provide a focal point for seatings placed by fireplace. In this setup I've put two rounded coffee tables instead long rectangular one to avoid highlighting the length of the room. @Kim, thank you :)...See MoreDon't know where to start with the basement.
Comments (14)@K H I tried to come up with a starting point for you. My thoughts regarding home theaters are that, for sound insulation, they are usually isolated spaces. Also, due to the close proximity of sleeping areas, this may be something that you should consider. For organization purpose and clean visuals, I like your idea about using cabinetry and shelving to contain toys and craft materials. I personally think that this set-up would lend itself to an open area off of the stairway. And, for yours guest room, I think that the storage room would be perfect. Regarding your husband's weights: perhaps a small weight room can be created from the large mechanical room by creating a mechanical closet?...See MoreNHBabs z4b-5a NH
