I'm Back to Vaska
Comments (39)sshrivastava: "I have a whole house water softener, so all of the detergents I mentioned work at maximum effect in my household without any additives." That may explain in part why we had different experiences. The residual products of the minerals employed to make hard water soft may cause detergents to react differently than they do with water that had no significant mineral content to begin with. "I've tried them all and Vaska beats them all hands down. I can only share my own experience, I can't tell others what to do or buy. I don't believe anyone :else: took my statement to be a dictatorial edict telling others what to do." The negative pregnant is that you seem to think that I took your statement to be a dictatorial edict, which I assure you that I did not. In fact, specifically because of your unstinting praise of Vaska, when I found myself on the soap.com site the other day and needed something to push me over the free shipping threshhold, I added some Vaska lavendar 4X detergent to the cart, so soon I shall be able to see how it works here, all in the interests of Science, of course. As I simply cannot conceive of our laundry getting any cleaner than it does now using Bi-O-Kleen All Temperature liquid and a dash of borax, I am very dubious that I could see an improvement with Vaska. (If the laundry is clean, then it is clean.) But every milestone in the history of science has started with an open mind tempered by serious doubts, and I am willing to be convinced....See MoreAnyone using Vaska detergent?
Comments (24)cohoss, I also have the Vaska Spotoff. I like it. I don't have crazy stains around here but what I do have, it seems to work on. You can always try something once :) Here's a little blurb about it being used on the costumes for "Wicked". "Gillian Kadish the Wardrobe Supervisor on "Wicked" at the Orpheum Theatre in San Francisco had the following to say about Vaska, "It is of the utmost importance to be environmentally conscious in the ÂWicked wardrobe Department and by using Vaska we are able to use earth friendly products. Not only are the Vaska products eco-minded, but the botanical formula in the laundry detergent helps prolong the life of our most delicate costumes. We are not sacrificing the ability to clean our clothes, just clean them in a more cost effective and environmentally sound way. The Spotoff stain remover by Vaska is my new favorite product. It has enabled us to thoroughly remove the Green Witch's body paint from her costume where other stain removing products had failed before!" I also use BioKleen Bac-Out which cannot be beat for protein stains such as grass and blood. Even chocolate ... My son used to have regular nose bleeds at night and it got every stain out of white sheets, quilts, pj's and even the carpet. I also recently started using my Method Smartclean Unscented. I squirt a little on a stain (particularly greasy spots) and it seems to take them out....See MoreVaska Herbatergent - shelf life???
Comments (13)@ larsi Drugstore.com issued a refund for the "damaged" portion of my order (ie. HALF a bottle of Herbasoft and HALF a bottle of oxygen bleach). No compensation for the icky mess I had to deal with when the boxes landed here. On top of that, I took some to my friend today and the oxygen bleach must have leaked AGAIN on route (even though it was standing upright the whole way there it must have swished around). Some product was in the bag and when I set it down in her front hall (of her beautiful new custom home) it left terrible etch marks on the marble foyer. Great! I set it down for a second before I realized it was wet - AGAIN!! I think the Vaska bottles are terrible. They clearly do not seal well enough to keep liquid inside them. I feel horrible. Colours do seem to "pop" - it's weird. I really like Greenworks for regular laundry (ie. kids' stuff). It handles every stain (so far) with no problems. @ sshrivastava Find the unscented Greenworks and use 3/4 to 1/4 unscented/scented. It makes a huge difference. Just a light hint of fragrance. I too dislike the regular fragrance. Based on how much scent is in my laundry only using 1/4 dose of scent - I can't imagine using scented full strength! Or use the unscented and use a scented FS you like. I just received the Mrs. Meyers Geranium in that shipment ... not so sure about it - VERY floral. I do have another I love though. What I read about Vaska's commercial product is that it is formulated for commercial machinery (not specific stains). It would make no sense for Vaska to handle stains on a commercial level but not for consumers. This is what I read, "Yes, the basic formula for the commercial line used by the SF Giants is the same as the retail Herbatergent and works the same way. The reason there is a slight difference in the formulas is because the commercial laundry machine ...is considerably different that the machines we use at home. The Giants wash about 95lbs versus our 18lbs (on a large home load). I hope this answers your question. If not, please email/facebook us and we will be more than happy to respond!"...See MoreDetergent Confusion (Persil and Vaska)
Comments (9)I cannot tolerate the regular Persil scent (although many on this board LOVE it). It is strong for me and I think I just don't like it. I've used it on my kids' clothes and days later they still smell and it bothers me. I do, however, really like the Persil Sensitive scent. Much more tolerable. Fresh and light. I use the Persil Sensitive Megaperls for whites like socks or tea towels. I read this about Persil Gold, "The Persil gold color products with luminosity formula ensures radiant purity and bright colours." http://www.persil.de/produkte/persil-gold-color.html I use Clorox Greenworks for my kids' laundry. No optical brighteners (which I prefer) and it seems to really get their things clean. They smell fresh and clean even days after washing. I LOVE Vaska. I use it for sheets/towels/delicates/swimwear/etc ... I find my white towels and sheets look white and smell clean. I also add oxygen bleach to keep things white. After I read the following I assumed it must be cleaning or these hotels would not be happy. "Royal Laundry of South San Francisco washes one million pounds of laundry a week for more than 150 hotels throughout Northern California. Royal's president Don Luckenbach says he is pleased with the switch to botanically based products to do the laundry for his luxury hotel customers in the San Francisco hospitality industry, including the Joie de Vivre group, Kimpton Hotels, the Fairmont, and the Ritz Carleton."
