Why is it so Hard to find make-up for elderly without sparkles?
Comments (12)I haven't worn a foundation in at least five years & don't miss it. As I've aged ('m 70) I seem to want less 'heaviness' or 'weight' on my skin. (I also don't miss having to put it on.) However, I have discovered a product this past year that I'm really pleased with: Olay Definity Color Recapture. It's a lightly tinted sheer moisturizer, light in texture & not sparkley. It makes my skin looks lighter & almost dewy. I find it at Target, Rite-Aid, CVS, etc. You could check products at these stores; they carry Maybelline, Olay, Neutrogena, L'Oreal, Max Factor & other lines that don't necessarily cater to the under-50 crowd. I use a powder blush & want to share a hint I read years ago. Instead of using a separate eye shadow (which may no longer look good at upper ages), stroke on powder blush under the brow above the eyelid. Also use it on the tip of the chin to add definition to the face. I'm echoing moonshadow - you are a good daughter. When we get so old, we age in ways we don't expect & it's pretty discouraging & depressing. We think & feel the same inside as we did years ago, but there's this ugly person on the outside....See MoreBathroom Stuff
Comments (26)Here is how my bath/med stuff is organized: We have a cabinet in laundry room which is where any medicinal supplies is kept. I bought 4 12qt plastic boxes and labeled them "Kid's Meds" "Skin Meds" (peroxide, alchohol etc) "Pain Meds" "Cold Meds" we don't have much medicine but so those cover everything, they stack nicely in the closet and are easier to find but also easy enough for my husband and kids to keep organized. There are several large items (braces, heating pads, etc) that I just placed in a larger clear tote in the bottom of the closet "Misc Medical". In the Bathroom I keep acrylic drawers & shallow baskets under the sink to organize makeup, lotions, everyday bath items. The key to bathroom organization with small storage space is to just keep what you need on a daily/weekly basis. I have two 20 qt clear plastic totes that we keep the extra razors, soap, shamp/cond, q-tips etc. Those go in the bottom of the closet (which is also in the bathroom). TP, toilet supplies all go in a cabinet over the toilet. if you have a lot of small items consider adding magnets to the back and placing galvanized (magnetic) metal on the inside doors, or sides of cabinet. I saw a friend do this for her makeup, reach in grab then stick back to the metal and close door, very handy for morning rush when drawers and baskets are just too much hassle. I've learned to keep vitamins where we'll remember to take them so the kid's vitamins are in the vanity next to their toothbrushes, but adult vitamins are in our nightstands since that is the only way we seem to remember them. Curling irons, hair dryers, brushes, etc are stored in the vanity drawers...that seems to be easier than placing those large items underneath the sink. However if you don't have drawers they sell wonderful holders that attach to the inside of the doors. Adding a flip out drawer on the vanity panel in front of the sink that usually is unusable is a great toothbrush storage space. Hope this helps! The most important thing I figured out was don't be afraid to store extras somewhere outside of the bathroom to save space, long as you place them in a container together with a label it'll stay organized and easy to access later. Back in our old house there was only a pedestal sink no storage, a large cabinet over the toilet was a life saver, as was using the linen closet (if you have one nearby). Never forget the valuable "hidden" storage you can create between wall studs with minor carpentery skills :) Or a shelf over the bathroom door, then place baskets for storing items not frequently used....See MoreA trivial improvement: Before/After
Comments (33)Thank you all so much! I'm blushing! It really wasn't difficult once I figured out what product could make the paint stick. I just followed the natural lines of the can when taping and it just came out that way. Actually, it saved me from the compulsion to do stripes. That would have had me pulling out my hair. :O) Sherrmann-LOL, I'll have to save it for *special* trash. :OP AJsMama- The pendant came from Fire Mountain. I looked, but can't seem to find the same one on their site. Warning, it is an addictive site if you like to make things. It came in a package of two, surely not more than a couple of dollars. Prices there are great. Here is a link that might be useful: Pendant came from this company...See Moretaking my stuff...what am I to do?
Comments (25)Hi finedreams, I had the identical thing happen to me with SD and SS. They both lived with us in there late teens and early twenties while in high school and college. They would take whatever they wanted. I lost silverware, dishes, potholders, drinking glasses, hair products, towels, blankets, personal care products, toliet paper, the lists goes on and on. One time SS (17 years old at the time) announced to DH and myself "I'm going to mom's and I'm taking tolietpaper (while he held a roll of tolietpaper up for us to see) because she is low on tolietpaper." Wow, I was so in shock I didn't say a word and DH said nothing. After he left I told DH that had to stop. DH said nothing. Another time DH and myself were in our bedroom sleeping and were planning to leave on a trip early in the morning. We had our luggage packed in our bedroom. SS arrives home at 12:30 AM and sneaks into our bedroom and starts going through my luggage. I believe he must have been looking for my contact solution. DH had given him money to go purchase some a couple day prior and reminded him twice. SS choose not to get any but instead was digging through my luggage. I was shocked again. I believe alot of my kitchen items went to BM house because she went through a second divorce and her second husband took some of the kitchen items. I believe SS felt sorry for her so decided he would take my things (which were my items before marrying DH) to help mom out. He never asked DH or myself and did it sneakingly. A couple of the beautiful potholders that disappeared were handmade by my grandmother that she gave me before she died. I wish now I would of hid them. I had them in the back of the potholder cabinet and rarely used. I was so very frustrated. When they lived with us as adults I purchased twice as much personal care products. Frequently, I would go to use my shampoo, contact solution, lotion, dental floss, etc. and I would be out or it was gone. I tried talking to DH about it but he did nothing. So, what I did was take my large suitcase with a lock on it and placed items that where important to me and locked them up. It was a hassle to go unlock the suitcase if I needed something, but it stopped the disappearing items. This was a few year ago and they no longer live with us, but it still gets me upset to this day when I think about. Because of this I do not want the step kids alone in our home. Just a couple weeks ago SS was home from college and in our house alone for only one hour while DH and I went to church. Well, another expensive item disappeared. DH was looking for it the other day and couldn't find it. He called SS and yes he had it. I always thought how inconsiderate these kids were and I resent DH for not saying anything. I do not trust either one on them. I believe they think we owe them. I feel that the way they have treated me, I owe them nothing....See MoreOklaMoni
