Anyway, the specs for these can be found on the Energy Star online spreadsheet, which shows the lumens for the 6" and 4" versions are more like 652 and 620 respectively, the actuall wattage iw in the low 11s for both, and that CRI isn't all that high, 80.2 for the 6" an 81.7 for the 6". Cree's model numbers for these are CE-JB6-650L-27K-E26 and CE-JB4-650L-27K-E26. I was almost about to install the 6" light I bought to replace a hideous swag lamp in the hallway ceiling, but may hold out for the 4" model now. The actual trim rings are more like 7.5" and 6" and are on the HD spec pages. The design is interesting, with a 3-prong holder familiar to CR6/Ecosmart 575L users except it's easily removable if you're installing in a J-box. The 4" version has smaller prongs to cling to 4" cans rather than 6" or maybe 5". There is a pigtail, to which you can attach either a standard Edison socket (included) or a pair of wires with bare ends for hardwiring, which yields T24 compliance. It's dimmable to 5%, rated for 35,000 hours, warranted for 3 years, and rated for wet locations and outdoor use (but I don't think direct exposure to rain, haven't read the instructions yet). Wish the CRI was higher, but nice light nonetheless.

love the message niche idea...now I want one too... I am one of those "use every inch" types so I think putting stuff in between studs is great--otherwise think of all the wasted space!! If you don't fry, etc. maybe it isn't a concern, but I just wanted to say I have a narrow shelf behind my cooktop now, pretty high up, with a few doodads and jars on it, and it is DISGUSTING. I reached for something the other day and it had the nastiest film on it. TO clean it I would have to dump out all the spices in the bottle and wash it. So I just put it back, LOL...anyway, even if there's not grease there will be steam, which will attract dust and make a film. So if you do want a niche plan on it being purely decorative, and on washing the stuf in it periodically. BTW what is OOAK?

Oh thank you aliris19. I just thought of some thing on my project. Those 6 by 6 tiles are 1/4 inch thick so I needed the thinner mirror behind the glass bits to bring them up to the proper height. If I were using regular 1/8 stained glass I would also use the 1/8 inch mirror against 1/4 inch tiles. I know my work is kind of insane says she smiling. It is not for the faint of heart. I suppose some day I will be known not only as the crazy cat lady but the crazy glass lady too. Good thing we have a strong foundation on this place. powermuffin, thanks for the caveat on the garbage disposal drain size. I'm not sure that I would put in a disposal, since we're on a septic and therefore quite rarely use the one I have now, though it's ~30 years old and perhaps just gumming anything I put down it anyhow. Since there are drains installed in the sink, I haven't figured out how to measure the diameter--oh no, sounds like real life math! ;) Definitely something to know *before* buying a new disposal! mtnrdredux, I have to take faucet concerns seriously from someone who put a pot filler in a rock wall... ;) Yes, the deck and drain hole sizes and what faucet will fit is now gnawing at me (heh, likely because the design questions don't have a finite answer like this does). the ledge above and behind the current sink (all along the counter and wood-covered in the other rooms) is actually open to the half-basement below with windows for solar gain. It's a hypocaust system where the south-facing windows heat the air and then there are fans that pump the air under the north side of the house. We also use a fireplace insert but the propane furnace runs quite rarely, set at 60, and we're at 8200' with an -18 degree night last winter! Well, that was a loooong answer to your comment! :) I *do* love having the ledge to set hot pans especially, which is why I really want to put tile/something heatproof there. I put all the pizza toppings on the ledge while taking up the whole counter handling the dough--feels like a real pizzaria that way lol! ptamom, I have read good reviews of reglazing for bathtubs but bad reviews for kitchen sinks. This sink is in good enough condition that I won't have to worry about that. Concrete counters sounds like they'd provide that contemporary/industrial edge, but I have concerns about the maintenance required. Also, the counters (well, everything...) has to be DIY which is why I've focused on laminate and lately soapstone if other concerns can be met. thanks for coming back to this thread with your thoughts! cheers
