He does have the egg crate thing, as I mentioned. We decided (with the help of asking another friend of mine and some internet searching) that he needs a cotton mattress pad and cotton sheets. I'm not sure what the fabric contents are of the mattress pad he has now, but I bet it's not 100% cotton. I also told him to try taking off the egg crate thing, because whatever that's made of, it could be making him sweat. He is sort of a sweaty guy in general, and he takes a medication that can increase the problem, but hasn't had this night-sweat problem in any other bed that he's slept in, so I've got to think it's the plastic mattress. He has a single room but, I have a very strong suspicion that he isn't alone in it much of the time... GF lives right down the hall. He is most definitely not a drinker -- I know many students are, but he's very anti-drinking. Not because of anything his parents have taught him, just his own thing! Anyway, I ordered him a good quality cotton mattress pad and sheets and am hoping that's the solution.

I also am very happy to find websites like this. Never had a problem until 64 and doctor thought I needed some estrogen for "dryness" issues. I was on Estriol compounded as it is not sold in U.S. but is in other countries. 2 1/2 months had to stop using as it made me ill. I realized later it was ordered too strong . My Gyn was also an Ob and specialized in adolescent pregnancy. What was I thinking !! Started very disturbing symptoms about 2 months after the end of Estriol. Profuse sweating, followed by chills, rapid increase in heart rate (over 130), dizziness and nausea in the middle of the night, night after night. I was so exhausted I ended up passing out and in the hospital. First Cardiologist, then Endocrinologist and finally going next week to GYN specialist. Of course went through the "you must be having anxiety" talk. Did I mention I am a retired Major in the Army Nurse Corps and psychiatric trained Reg. Nurse. I only mention this as I was almost starting to believe them. Thank GOD, and I mean this, I started to do my own research. Hot Flashes and Night Sweats with severe vasomotor reaction, very common. Well I say with all my heart thank you ladies for sharing on sites like these. It has been 81/2 months and they are definitely less. I am using magnesium, Vit. E, watching sugar intake, doing deep breathing , trying to control stress and thinking about Remifemin. Good luck to everyone .

I would be concerned with how everything sounds light and airy with all of the white, aqua and seagrass and then there's this heavy, massive bed. I think a bed like this asks for black, and relative moody colors like red. The chests are fine but better in black. This bed is better suited in an English country type room with lots of layering and drama, maybe a Spanish style interior because of it's massive visual weight....

linnea, I've had this happen before, I love sheets and pillowcases from the 50's 60's &70's..but they can be a resl pain to clean. Those yellow stains are built up body oils that have adheared like glue to the fabrics fibers. I can tell you what I do..but I have no idea if yours can take the process, I first soak mine a few day in the hottest tap water with LIQUID detergent,(liquid works best for oils) changing the water about every 6 hours and adding a bit more detergent. .after a few days I put them in a huge soup pot ( yes friends my soup pot gets a work out) than cover with hot water, put it on the stove and bring to a boil, tu rn down to a simmer, add a good TOL powder detergent this time and a good dose of biz..stir with a paint stirrer till mixed well and just let them simmer maybe 30 min and shut off...after it cools enough to handle without getting burnt I carefully pull the pillowcases out , remember all the gunk will be at the bottom of the pot....than I put them in the wssher and run a prewash..by now there's enough detergent in the fibers so add nothing to the prewash...than wash on longes t setting with hot water, true hot water with detergent and biz...this process works even better if you have STPP to add to every process except final rinse. I know this seems like a long process but it's sooo worth it to sleep on vintage bedding. I've found the older the bedding the better it stands up to boiling water. Omg this sounds like a recipe...lol
