I did not see that show so I cannot comment on it but, I think that what they are trying to say is that most of the television monitors sold nowdays do not have antenna in them. Manufacturers stopped putting antenna in television monitors because most people use them with cable or dish. If you have a television monitor without an antenna, of course your converter box is useless because the unit can't pick up OTA reception. You would need an external antenna. Not everyones does though. It all depends on what kind of unit you have. Back in the mid nineties when I was shopping in the electronics department, I noticed that many of what looked like televisions had big sticker signs on them touting *ANTENNA INCLUDED*. I thought this was redundant since all "televisions" had internal antennas. A clerk explained that most of what where on the shelves were just monitors. They had no antenna. They had ports to connect cable or dish hook-up. So if you just have a monitor, then yes, you would need to get an antenna to use it with the converter box to receive OTA signals. This situation would be rare though. Anyone with an existing television who is getting OTA signals already has an antenna in their television set. If by some chance it broke and they went out and bought a television monitor they would have to get an antenna for it. Azzalea, your post is very important information. Many people like my parents, who never had (and never will) get cable/dish, have older television sets with antenna and probably do not realize that this. If their set would break and they would need to replace it, they will have to (#1): buy a television monitor and get and antenna for it and a converter box, OR (#2): buy a television set with an internal antenna (if they are still going to continue to manufacturer them) and use it with the external converter box. The other option would be (#3): to purchase a television set with an antenna and a converter built in internally which would mean they wasted their money buying an external converter box. Another thing is, that you need an analogue converter box for your VCR if you are going to record programs or else you have to disconnect the box from the TV and connect it to the VCR in order to receive signals to the VCR anttenna. Or get two converter boxes if you like to watch one show while recording another. If you get a brand new television that receives the new signal on its own with an internal converter, you will still need a converter box for your VCR antena. I find all this stuff really hard to try to comprehend and I have to try to explain this all to may elderly parents who have a difficult time trying to learn all of this. I'm glad I went TV-less again. My life is more peaceful with out a TV.

I have no interest in wasting my time on researching, responding to, or arguing with trolls. The more time and energy you spend on them, the more they win. The best thing you can ever do is ignore them and act like they're not even there. Their lives are so pathetic that they want to bring others down to make themselves feel better. Do yourself a favor, forget about 'em, and enjoy your life.

We've used a roof antenna for several years, and get the ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, CW, 2 PBS stations, plus two more. Fortunately all of the stations broadcast from the nearly the same location and are all in the UHF band so a narrow-angle, high-gain, UHF-only antenna worked quite well. At our new place, although it is much closer to town it is also in a bit of a valley so using just the set-top bowtie antenna doesn't work very well. I borrowed an amplified indoor antenna with lights and buttons and a swiveling panel that looks a little like a satellite dish, however it performed much worse than the simple bowtie antenna. Just a day or two ago I moved the bowtie antenna upstairs using a 75 Ohm coax cable, and all 9 channels come in reliably. When I lived in a development that had a HOA, the HOA rules prohibited having a roof top antenna, however upon researching it I discovered there is (or was at that time) a federal law that overrides and invalidates all such HOA rules.

Winter, you've been quite unlucky but your experience suggests it was a Marketplace seller? You may be right but in this case I rather doubt it. If I hadn't ordered the same product twice before from Amazon...with no send/delivery problems...I wouldn't have been so flummoxed. The telephone representative was extremely rude and refused to listen to logic. It was a rather harrowing experience. Particularly considering that I had just ordered and paid for an $800+ computer through them. It was delivered with no problems. Perhaps it depends on the $$$ size of the order. I don't know. But it sure threw me off from any future business with them. I ate the orders that were damaged and likely...as you suggest...from an outside vendor. It just wasn't worth the hassle to try to return the items. Instead, I donated them and repurchased them locally. I live out in the country with no close access to UPS and I no longer drive. They're a terrible delivery service where I live and returning merchandise is a massive mission not often successful. I did return the one of the three ordered containers of Lutein incorrectly sent and I had to call UPS to return a second time to give me the return label/packaging because they never rang my front doorbell when they said they had attempted to reach me. I had no idea they had even stopped here. They in turn explained that Amazon tells them how many times they can return to the customer to pick up an order. Amazon had directed UPS to only stop once. The UPS driver did not leave any return data and I subsequently was charged over $7 for the UPS truck to return a second time. Oddly enough...I had explained the difficulty I would entail trying to return the package via UPS to the Amazon rep on the phone. A lot of good that did. In one ear and out the other. If it hadn't been for a very nice lady at the UPS office...I'd still be holding that bottle. She took pity on me and sent the driver back with the return label, etc goods. I met him at the door and had him wait while I put the package in the UPS return envelope. He didn't move an inch and smiled nicely as he took it and left. The whole experience was dreadful and one I do not wish to repeat for any reason. I wasted more time and patience trying to pleasantly settle the whole mess with Amazon. They, in turn, IMO...took advantage of my pleasant disposition and...in the vernacular...stuck it to me. Fortunately...my new computer is a major brand [Lenovo] and if I have any trouble with it...I don't have to return to Amazon. I saved a considerable amount of $$$ buying it through Amazon so perhaps that should make up for all the angst they gave me over what should have been 3 containers of Lutein.
