Gaggenau vs Miele wall oven+warm drawer+combi oven
Comments (23)@Sarah, I bought the 36" fridge/freezer combo (bottom freezer), and a 24" wine cooler column. The fridge has been installed about 4 years ago, the wine cooler still standing in my garage - need to make room for it and have been procrastinating. Also my better half developing a bit of a wine habit has not helped to incentivize me to install a full wine rack - unfortunately. Had 0 problems so far. It just freaking works. @JJ Mekai, in my experience you don't get a better longevity from any other brand. Don't know about Miele, but I did have to replace my Miele dishwasher (installed in 2007) about a year ago. The Gaggenau cooktop and vent hood installed at the same time don't even blink. I may replace some parts because they get rubbed off for looks... but functionally they are rock solid. Sorry... the hood had a snafu once couple years back. Circuit board replacement, cost me $350 to fix. The ovens, and they are used daily, as the refrigerator, installed about 4 years ago, knock on wood, are rock solid and seem to just keep on ticking....See MoreGap under single wall oven- filling the gap advice
Comments (26)Old thread but let us be realistic about adding a drawer. 2 2.x 4's stacked is only around 3" of space. 3" minus clearance allowance for the drawer bottom. Minus 1/2" thickness of the drawer bottom. You might get a 2 1/4" deep drawer in there. Using side mount slides. And a drawer with a planted on plywood drawer bottom. Forget using those fancy Blum bottom mounts. Those require drawer bottoms that are recessed. 'In there'--means you have to pull the oven out of the hole in order to mount the drawer slides. After you get the 2 x 4's fastened down and square with the cabinet. Those 2 x 4's cost you at least 7" of potential drawer width. Then you have to come up with a drawer front that matches the cabinets. Not. Worth. It. And dang, I forgot all about needing to use at least a 3/4" wide piece of material at the top of the opening--face frame construction. Your drawer just shrunk by another 3/4". The metal trim is a good idea. Another solution is to glue and pocket screw a filler in place to cover the gap before installing the oven....See MoreMicrowave drawer installed incorrectly in inset cabinets?
Comments (73)Nidnay - I remember reading this post at the start of building our new home over 2 years ago. Although I thought your microwave looked fine the way it was, I did like the inspiration photo that you showed. So I filed in my brain to be sure and have my microwave set back into the cabinetry because we also were getting inset cabinets. Guess what...I never gave it another thought!!! Now in our house for over a year and I saw this thread had popped up again. I had to go into my kitchen and see how my microwave drawer was placed. Well, apparently the position has never bothered me. 😁 PS - My dishwasher is on the opposite side, but within the bump-out area of my cabinets, It is inset into the cabinetry. When the dishwasher (Bosche) was first installed, it was sticking out like the microwave (I still cannot believe that I have never noticed 😀.) I had my builder set the dishwasher into the cabinetry....See MoreTile instead of cabinet above over the range microwave??
Comments (13)An OTR microwave mounts to both a wall bracket (which holds the back) and the cabinet above (which holds the front). Without the front, a 'sheet of plywood' would still need some sort of wall brace (large L brackets or 2x4s at a 45* angle from the front to the rear wall) capable of holding the weight of an Advantium (not light) and whatever you choose to put in it. Otherwise, it's going to twist off the rear bracket and go crashing to the floor. You probably don't want the 120v Advantium. Doesn't work all that great. 240v is better. I know they used to make a 240v OTR version. I almost bought one open box....See Moreailaz
