Comments (9)We are doing almost exactly that layout (L with range and sink, with fridge + baking area across from the sink in an almost 13' wide space), and will be done soon, so I'll post pictures in the next few weeks. We could have squeaked an island in with some other design sacrifices, but opted not to. I don't think I would have tried an island with anything narrower than 13', though. Our pre-remodel kitchen had a very similar layout, and we used (and liked) the center space at parties and such for people to gather. Apparently it is not an officially recognized "type" of kitchen, but I have seen it a few other places, too!...See Moreplease help with bar stools - kitchen island
Comments (34)i have the same configuration as you with my double ovens and fridge behind the island seating. One of the best decisions I made for my remodel was getting a counter depth fridge AND getting rid of my stools that had backs and swiveled. What a difference it made not only in when someone is getting something out of the fridge or oven (now they can pivot to the island to set something down) but also for parties where you use the island as a buffet (the stools don't get in the way and guests can reach over them to get food). Plus they don't take any coveted aisle space when walking through. Here is my set up: I'm wondering if my stools would work in your kitchen? They are super comfy because of the cushion and I don't miss the backs or the swivels of my old ones like I thought I would. Here are some others:...See MoreKitchen island stool suggestions

Comments (4)Here are a few more. Deliberately picked some that have wood but not shaped panels. If you do drywall, try to use at least semi-gloss paint to help with scuffing....See More- 17 days ago
