I would treat it now with BLUE Dawn dish soap. Dawn breaks up grease.

Maybe you shouldn't dry it until you can make sure the stain is out. Do you have a way to hang or drape it to dry?

I second the blue Dawn dish soap. If you subject polyester to high dryer heat it will set the stain before you're sure it has come out. I use a big dishpan or wash tub to transport wet stuff to and from the laundromat. You could also use a big garbage bag so the car doesn't get wet.

I recommend you rub some good liquid detergent with enzymes in it..wait 15 minutes than if you can minipulate just the stained areas into the tub without wetting the entire thing, flush it well with hot water, than repeat detergent. .wrap up and take to laundramat..wash in hot with liquid detergent with enzymes. ..by the way what size is the comforter?

Remember liquid detergent works better for oil/grease...but it needs to have enzymes.

Mamap: it's a full/queen. It's not super thick. I probably could fit it in my washer but I'm going to go ahead and take it the laundry mat.

You know Shout or Spray and Wash in a can will work. Why not just use it and not have to do any extra steps. Just spray then wash.

OK hold your hats! Crisco. Crisco for some strange reason removes butter and fat strains better than anything. And it magically washes out. Glob it on, work in, and wash with quality detergent. My mother of 93 years taught me that trick. Unfortunately she's gone now but those old-school tricks live on!

There was a thing on Pinterest a while back talking about how to get out oil stains from clothes that had already been washed and dried. You put cardboard under the stain (so nothing would bleed through), and then you sprayed WD-40 just on the stain to 'reactivate the oil". You then followed that by applying lots of baking powder and pressing/brushing it in, letting it soak up the oil, dust off/repeat. Finally, glob on the blue dawn, rub it in, and rewash. I tried it on a few shirts and it actually worked. It was time/labor intensive, but I saved a t-shirt I really liked that I thought was done for. If interested in all the details, you should be able to search for 'wd-40 baking powder dawn' and get several results.

Get yourself a bar of Fels Naptha soap. Wet the soap and rub it into the stain. Wash as normal. Fels Naptha soap works on all oil based stains and takes them right out. The bar also lasts forever so very cheap and cost effective.

I do it with table linen around the holiday season. Butter is tough to get out otherwise, without a commercial solvent. But that stuff is so toxic and you really can't or shouldn't flush it down the drain. Believe it was an RR Streets product.

Interesting about the Crisco. Sorta light hair color gets hair color off skin and nail polish with remove nail polish. I tried Dawn it looks like the stains are going to come out. Thx.

Tideman, I love Fels as a pre treater for stains, IMO nothing in a public store works better. 1$ a bar and it lasts forever.

Yep Pink. It's lye isn't it? When I wS a kid my mom used it to wash clothes. Cut a big ole chunk and tossed it in the ole wringer washer. Lol

I do have the pink bar soap...whatever that one is. I do remember using a bar soap (about 25 yrs ago) at a friends house on some white cotton shorts and whatever that bar was literally ate the fabric away....OK so update on the garlic knot grease stain...I ran the comforter down to the laundry mat, I went ahead and sprayed Shout it Out on the spots also. Looks like everything came out. On the sly I was "checking out" all the detergents people were using in the laundry mat. I felt like a pervert!! lol

Waterless hand cleaner like M-30 or Go-Jo works too. Rub in and wash. It does have a smell though. But so does Shout and Spray&Wash sprays but they sure work. Dawn and Peroxide works too although someone here told me it didn't work for her. I have never had that problem.

Sin, Fels-Naptha used to be a Petroleum derived Solvent based laundry soap bar, hense the name*Naptha* however I believe the Naptha was removed a few years back. I will look for a MSDS when I have time tonight. I can't remember what's in the stuff but I remember last summer after seeing the MSDS that those people making the homemade laundry soap that are claiming they do it because they are getting rid of toxic chemicals in their life, apparently haven't read the ingredients in Fels.

There is Grandmas old fashioned lye soap bar, its also great for stains, however I haven't been able to find it, I do think Cracker Barrel sells it.

I have used grease-cutting liquid dish soap, Shout, and liquid detergent to take out grease and oil stains. I rinse the area being treated with the hottest water coming out of the tap and reapply the treatment liquid and rinse with hot water again. Also, I would set the heat of the water in my washer to 120 or 140 degrees-F. (My washer has a cold-water-only fill, with water being heated up gradually to the set temperature.) Ultimately, grease-cutting pretreatment + detergent + hot water seems to get out grease/oil stains.
