Keeping clothes fresh & ready to wear for months
Comments (5)Keeping the air circulating is important. You could leave the closet door open with a fan pointed at it. If you used a fan with manual buttons instead of electronic ones, you could put it on a wall timer so that the fan turns on for an hour or two per day, rather than running all the time. A $20 box fan would be good. Personally, I don't find that clothing stored in closets or drawers for six months necessarily have a stale smell, but maybe my nose isn't that sensitive. My summer and winter clothes sit for months unused, and seem fine to me. Bagging the suits does not sound like a good idea due to the lack of air flow, but you might want to look into the paper or plastic shoulder covers to avoid dust settling....See More'Intensive wear' to help cull clothing
Comments (2)This is a really great idea! I esp. like the idea that there may be a reason you don't wear it much, but you've gotten about that reason. It slips off your shoulders too easily, or it's the wrong fabric weight for all the other clothes you have, or whatever. Or, of course, you forgot how much you liked it. I have a "forced wearing" w/ DD. She has clothes she likes intellectually, but not really. So if she balks at decluttering it, I say, "you have to wear it tomorrow. If you're not willing to wear it tomorrow, out it goes."...See MoreWhat to do with nice clothes I don't wear
Comments (13)if they are wool or cotton or silk you could compost them. ;) just kidding! i know you said yours are all in good condition but this is what we do with our clothes once they are worn out. they get torn into strips and tossed into the pile. :) i also vote for the shelter's. a lot of times these poor women leave with only the clothes on their backs and have to start completely over. best of luck to you...See MoreLG front loader wearing out clothes!
Comments (26)I have the LG 3570 washer, which is a newer, roughly-equivalent washer to the 2277. Before that I had an Asko FL washer, which was gentle on clothes. When I first got the 3570 I noticed some cheaper, flimsier childrens clothes came out looking worn after using the Cottons/Normal cycle. I switched to using Perma Press for most clothing items, which seems to work okay. For towels and socks I use the Cottons/Normal cycle. I have noticed some of my towels have developed holes in them. They happen to either be rather cheap or rather old (14+ years). One thing that might contribute to this is the force exerted on them by the High speed spin. Perhaps reducing the spin speed to a Medium might help prevent holes from forming. I should also mention that a number of towels also showed wear after a number of years from being washed in the Asko. Usually, tears started forming around the trim at the ends of the towels. FWIW, I use mostly Persil Power Perls. Before that I used Miele Ultra Color. I sometimes use Gain He liquid and Arm & Hammer He liquid. My wife often does loads using Miele Ultra White. I have no idea whether or not detergent can cause the holes....See Morenicole___
