Coleus - what the heck is my problem?
Comments (23)Michelle, After looking at your pics I was gona ask you if your containers were in magazines then I read your post from yesterday, congrats!!! Your containers are amazing. Kathi your last picture of the bright pink and burgundy coleus is breathtaking. I love coleus and have had on and off success with them. Last year they were awful. I couldn't resist a flat of them from Home Depot a little over a month ago (they really looked wonderful). They are doing better than last years crop, and I have been pinching the flower buds, but after reading all the info here I'm gona try more pinching in hopes of getting bushier plants. I've planted them along the front of my ornamental grass bed and I'll post pictures if they do what I want them to do. Vikki...See MoreFavorite Way to Start Coleus Cuttings-For Coleus Lovers!
Comments (21)Does anyone know why cuttings curl up (and out of the water) when potted in water? I just made my cuttings yesterday and the stems all curled up when I checked on them this afternoon. Each cutting was placed on a separate can of water and water was filled until it covered a little above the lowest nodes. In addition to the curled stems, the leaves also seem to be curling a bit. Does anyone know what's happening to my cuttings? Are they wilting or dying? What should I do to save them or keep them healthy. Please help! Thank you in advance....See MoreFun thread: What is your current kitchen related obsession?
Comments (74)Mine longtime kitchen obsession has been vintage cookware from the 50s or older. I have a lot of Guardian Service cookware. I love that the stuff is practically bombproof. At the thrift store the other day I found an ancient but still perfectly workable Presto 4 qt pressure cooker. The hammered texture on the lid caught my eye. It has beautiful wood handles too. I love that I can still get gaskets and overpressure plugs for it which I did because while the ones it had were serviceable they looked a little old. I also found a manual for it. Using some common sense and some internet research, it's incredibly easy to use. Since then I have experimented with making a few dishes in it. French onion soup is awesome in it and beans come out creamy textured. Presoaking gets better results though if in a hurry I can start from dry. Seasonings get right into the beans instead of staying in the broth. I am looking for a big oldie so i can use it at the next chili cook-off!...See MoreMy latest obsession home.
Comments (24)Mine is a bungalow that is for sale now. SO would hate the neighborhood, he wants a big yard with space. I like that it has a small yard--not much maintenance and I do horticulture for a living so get enough "yard time" at work. I even had a dream about the house last night. But right now I'm living in my parents old house, and since that one is free right now, the price is right. Once I get through mom's things and find a second job, I will be able to figure out where to move to. So in the meantime, I fantasize about that bungalow . . ....See MoreTiffany, purpleinopp Z8b Opp, AL
