Comments (43)Thank you, thank you for the "beautiful home" comments. When it was new eight years ago, I was enthused about keeping it clean and orderly. That mindset went by the wayside with the advent of gardening. Now the new decor has revitalized my domestic instincts. I hope it lasts, but I'm really getting less gardening done. I have planting to do now and I've wasted the cooler weather being inside. Oh, well, such is life. Cath, one could argue that I was doing the wrong thing by seemingly buying every blue & white fabric in sight, but in the end it turned out well. The original pillow covers were a very odd abstract design, very not me, so it worked out well with some work on my part. And DH loves it, too. He asked me to make a cover for the recliner to preclude stains even though it is stain-protected. Do you believe he picked a blue & white toile from the stash! Campanula is right. They are larkspur. Delphiniums don't work here - too hot, I guess. The larkspurs reseed and start coming back every January. I'm starting to pull them out now. They have lived their life beautifully. I don't know if the heat is doing them in or they are just this short-lived and are running their natural course. They make a spectacular splash in the garden during the time when stuff is frozen back and roses aren't ready yet. Freezes don't bother them. Without them the late winter/early spring would be so barren. I love that they come back on their own. I'm not disciplined enough to be doing seeds in August for planting in Sept/Oct to make a winter season garden. Did it once and don't think I'll ever do it again. That's all hot-time here and doing the tedious work of distributing tiny seeds in tiny pots while sweating on the screened porch is not my idea of fun. I suppose I could do it in the evening. I'll have to think about that. They'll have to be reseeders though. More research. So, Suzy, I think we have the apparel language straight at least for now. I would dearly love to visit the UK and France but it is highly unlikely since I don't buy lottery tickets. But if I do, I will be up to speed on the language. And thank you for the "Sherry's famous larkspur" comment. It made me smile. Sherry Here is a link that might be useful: If only sweat were irrigation......See More10 year old kissing, what do i do??
Comments (12)I have a 10 year old boy and I have hear some of the same things you are talking about. I don't remember even being interested in boys at 10, but since I turned 40 this year, I realize that was back in the dark ages and everything is different now : ) LOL. I was shocked when my son started coming home and talking about so and so are going together and so and so broke up. I tried to joke about it and say "so where are they going together, where are they going?" Yes, I know, that is very uncool. LOL I just try and listen to him when he is talking with his friends in the car or when I ask him what is new at school and his friends. He recently "broke up" with his girlfriend. I asked him what happened and he said that she was too possessive and he wanted to be with his friends. I had to bite my lip from laughing and I just told him that he was right. He has lots of time for girlfriends and now was the time to have fun with his friends. The little girlfriend called our house at least 6 times from the time school was out until we got home at 6:00, leaving a message only once and then continuing to call and handing up when the voice mail picked up. I told my son that it was OK that she call, but that he should tell her that once was enough and not to call until after 7:00 when we were home and finished with dinner. She didn't listen very well and I was glad when she stopped calling. I was almost ready to call her parents. I think you are right in talking with her about what is going on and encourage her to stand up for what she wants and doesn't want even though other kids may be doing it. This is such a hard lesson for kids, but I think it builds strong character which will be so important later on. Kids are growing up so fast these days. We can do everything in our power to slow that down, but I am not sure it is doing much good. I hate to see where this is all leading to. Good luck...See MoreI Tried Something New......Success!!
Comments (8)amck, Congratulations on your success with the chocolate-cherry brioche. I got the same email from KA & thought it sounded terrific. After my early July injury/stroke it was obvious I wouldn't be making bread for a loooong time. So, DH purchased a Breadman Ultimate Plus as a QVC TSV...under a $100, if I remember correctly. It's WONDERFUL! We let the machine make one loaf all the way thru just to see the process. The bread came out so great we both gave it a thumb's up & have been using it 2-3 times/week ever since. After that first try we only use the machine to make the dough & I've taught DH how to shape & take it thru the second raise/bake. Never thought I'd say it; but, the bread's REALLY good! My Electrolux is just collecting dust! We've most always got 2 lbs. of dough in the fridge developing flavor so it's easy to just grab enough for the two of us & finish it off anyway we are wanting. Today, DH grabbed some cheddar dough & made rolls for ham sandwiches & homemade tomato soup for lunch. The dough quality from the Breadman is so superior to the 5-Minute dough. DH is having a lot of fun & making different types as the mood strikes him. Have fun with the new breadmaker! /tricia...See MoreI'm TOTALLY mortified.......... :(
Comments (8)Unfortunatley it is in the original mix which considering what they usually come in, this isnt AS BAD, but as sooN as i get my gritty mix from my friends house, she'll be moved ASAP. It looks to be soil, bark, perilite, and grit. Though more soil percentage than anything else. I received it as a gift in late winter (I have one that I got in late summer but its in gritty mix and doing great) this one ive been watering sparingly believe it or not. But its getting quite warm here now in Michigan, so I have watered her more than i did when I first received her. But I always use a scewer to test the moisture b4 I watered. I have looked at the roots but that was probably 3 weeks to a month ago. I do look in the drain hole atleast once a week, which is why this freaked me out so much because last week everything was fine. when i received this plant, it did have arial roots (which it still does, I figured if something went wrong b4 I could get it in a gritty mix, atleast i would already have some roots to work with) sorry my response is soo long winded, but the more info the better right? ;) Thanks for everyones help!...See More- 11 years ago
