weight bearing issue for shelves over garage door

I found some hardware on line that would allow me to hang shelving to put over my garage door. I wanted it to store big bags of shredded leaves which I save over the winter to use for my compost pile. They are unsightly outside and take up too much space inside. But I read where most garages are not built to strong enough for this kind of weight? I'm not sure exactly how heavy these bags are but imagine a 39 gallon lawn/leaf bag filled 3/4 full. Is there a way to tell how much weight my garage could hold? The garage was built after the house, so the original exterior wall is on the inside wall. I have an unfinished attic above the garage with pull down wooden steps. It would be too much trouble to take those big bags up such narrow steps and I don't store anything heavy up there. I have a double garage with two garage doors. My house has a brick exterior, if that matters. Here is a picture of my garage door hardware.
