olychick, thank you for taking a look. :) I'm relieved to hear you think a white shower pan is best. I am heading out now to find porcelain marble look tiles for the shower walls to pick up the gray as you suggested. I want a shiny finish to the walls. Tell me if you think that's a misstep. I am avoiding marble as I have a marble topped vanity now that is pock marked with etchings. As far as seeing myself in the vanity, yes, I think I will be able to do so. I was planning on a black framed mirror spanning the vanity. My current vanity is 32 1/4" high (as will be the new vanity) and when seated on my vanity stool my reflection is seen up to my chest. The only issue currently is that my knees are pressed against drawers. I failed to mention that I was thinking of using absolute black granite for the vanity top for two reasons: one being cost and the other being to avoid etching. Will doing so deviate too much from my inspiration? On pure aesthetics the lower example pleased my eye more, and then I read your post! Imagine that .... I'll tell you what would please my eye even more -- being able to see myself! (vanity, thy name is ME) I think it's a more interesting composition having the mirror lower, and I think it's even more interesting if you're able to see yourself. But scrolling back up and reading others responses I am just one in a long line who feels this way. How do you feel? And on a totally different topic, I am so envious of your grand piano. I play exceedingly poorly and I've lived without a piano for years, but a girl can dream .... My two year-old has recently discovered the piano (at a little play class we take together), and watching him tickle (okay, pound) the ivories made me emotional. (I'm studying the banjo and already the two year-old makes prettier sounds on it than I!) So with your outdoor fireplace and your indoor piano I am going to live vicariously through you! amysrq, my hero!

I think a lot of bathrooms seem to have a theme because they are too small for more than one or two pictures, so it just seems like a theme. The pictures in my master bath have a theme I suppose just because I was too cheap to buy any pictures when I was doing it and just picked out some photos I had. If I got to buy something, I'm sure the pictures would relate only in that I liked them.

I had the exact same problem. I picked out the vanity I wanted but did not think about the fact that it wasn't made to sit flush against the wall. I spent a month looking for something else, but in the end we decided to go with something shorter and have it not be against the wall. But we were going from 72" to 60" which is probably not workable in your mom's situation. I did find a lot of vanities that did have flat sides and could work in a corner, if you are willing to have the countertop fabricated. They just need to not have any trim detail on the top or bottom like the one you picked out does. I would just look at the ones without the pre-made tops. Because the pre-made top will still leave you with a slight gap because of the countertop overhang. This is an example: Avanity Modero which is sold everywhere, not just at Lowe's. The cabinet we ended up buying is an Avanity Madison which won't work for you, but I assume it is of similar quality. We are pretty happy with it. The drawers and doors have soft close but I do feel like the glides in my Ikea kitchen drawers are better quality. It is very pretty and I wanted a stained wood so I am really happy with our choice. If I had been willing to go with a painted finish, I think we might have stuck with the 72" Modero.
