Comments (36)I say, three cheers for weeds! at least some of them. This is the area I see from my deck (although I walked down to take the photos). This used to be all lawn with a few oaks and cherries, and I let the steepest part of it go wild with some added plants as a border. I may have relocated a goldenrod there, I don't remember. The white wood asters volunteered first, and then the goldenrod joined in. I like the combination of the asters, goldenrod, and variegated miscanthus. Another volunteer is a pokeberry in my alley by the side of the house (this is a plain old "alley", not a fancy "allee"). Here the pokeberry fruits are hanging over the one sedum I didn't move out. Comments (28)pixie_lou: Nice job on the hardscaping in the front of the house - have you decided what you want to plant in that big empty space on the left? nhbabs: Gorgeous pictures! I love the muted colors, particularly the delicate pinks and the morning mist view. Nothing very dramatic here for the end of September - lots of berries and grasses and goldenrod. The cotoneaster along the wall: Volunteer crabapple fruits: Winterberry with Euonymus 'Silver King': Winterberry with Osmanthus 'Goshiki': Miscanthus 'Cosmopolitan' is beginning to bloom, but the seedheads aren't all fluffy yet: About half of the seedheads are open. The birds are finding them. The old forsythia leaves are turning red: The path to the house is getting wilder: The wisteria pseudo-standard keeps trying to extend its reach and I keep cutting it back. I usually leave some vines in the skirt if they're not a tripping hazard. You can't really see them in the previous picture, but the three big Blushing Knockout roses are blooming. Not a huge flush but still pleasing. Sedums with Juniper 'Grey Owl': A few plants are still green. Maybe it's because of the shade but the slugs haven't bothered these. Hosta 'Paul's Glory' with variegated Solomon's Seal: and Hosta 'Northern Exposure': Claire This post was edited by claire on Mon, Sep 29, 14 at 12:41...See MoreShow Us Your Gardens - A photo Thread - July 2015 Part II
Comments (39)Molie, I have a few white daylilies, but 'Light the Way' is really quite stunning. I also love 'Delia O'Brian Brown'. Steve, I can smell those lilies through the screen! And I'm sneezing! LOL! I really love the look of lilies, but I'm so allergic to them. Tried them for a couple years but just had too many issues. Then the beetles came.......then I really gave up. Will have to continue to enjoy your great photos! Isn't Marie's garden awesome?! I'm so glad Barb took pics while we were there. One of those gardens that is just so much fun to stroll around and find all the cool stuff planted. Such a wide variety. Claire, my viburnum was flowering beautifully, until they all started to turn brown, shrivel up and fall off. So no berries for me this year. I was just happy that the shrub appears to be OK. I was a little worried when the flowers were giving it up. I really like that carefree delight rose. Soooo pretty. Rooguchi clematis has been a blooming powerhouse for weeks. It doesn't show much sign of slowing down yet. Mohawk viburnum with its beautiful berry display. I love the way they change colors over time. Sorry for the blurry photo. I really need to ditch my point and shoot and go back to my D-SLR. But you get the idea. It's loaded with berries.....and the birds and critters never eat them. The daylily bed never disappoints. Delphiniums are now all cut down in cottage area. Hoping for a repeat bloom this fall....See MoreShow us Your Gardens - A photo thread - October 2015
Comments (31)MolieP, we store winter squash in the coldest part of our basement in the area where my husband has a basement level garage. The basement gets heat from a wood furnace so it's kind of tricky. This year he graciously suggested putting up some wooden shelves we already had instead of putting them in wooden crates under his workbench. But, since the shelves were close together, he cut the stems down to 1/2". I was appalled. Hope that doesn't make them spoil. We had another Delicata last night which was so sweet he asked if I had added sugar or maple syrup. I might have seen bluebirds yesterday. Perhaps they are the winter ones. Yeegads, I am fussing about a couple of chipmunks. Thyme, sorry you are overrun. I saw a lovely hawk, possibly a marsh hawk, making low circles around the yard yesterday. I've read about putting used cat litter in woodchuck holes. I might try that next year with the chipmunk holes. Damage this year is not as bad as last. The repellant spray I bought might have worked a little....See Moreclaireplymouth z6b coastal MA
