What to do with bird seed

I bought about 5 gallon of birdseed that I didn't use last winter. I only feed the birds in winter, and my last chicken died, so she isn't needing it. I'm keeping it in my house. Would it be better to disperse it outside (we have a big property), or would it still be of good nutritional value if I keep it for the coming winter?

Never mind. I decided to sprinkle it around our 35 acres and buy fresh in the winter.

A cool, dry area is best for storing your seeds, and is preferable to refrigeration. Here's some advice on your moonflowers: Before planting your moonflowers, soak the seeds in water at least 8 hours, then plant them about one-inch deep into the soil. Then, once the plant begins to grow a few inches, wrap it around something gently and encourage it to grow like a vine. Moonflower grows pretty rapidly, and can grow anywhere from 12 to 20 feet in length. It's important to mulch the moonflowerÂs soil regularly and pick back any dying flowers or leaves to encourage new, healthy growth. Good luck and happy planting! Probably a combination of excessive moisture and inadequate HEAT. Being tropical plants, room temperature is not high enough. I had some Traveler's palm seeds that I tried to germinate one year and they did nothing all Spring. I threw the soil out into the garden in a hot sunny location. In no time, all the plants were germinating! Convenient sources of "bottom heat" are radiators (in winter--as long as the heat is not too great), or maybe by a stove, or in a sunny window sill (especially if partially covered by glass or plastic). Soil temps of between 80-90 F. sound about right for tropicals. Also, be careful to keep soil just slightly moist but do not let dry out (I know a difficult balance).

Weird - but I took my shop vac reversed the hoses so the air blows outward instead of sucking in and blew the seeds until the hit the driveway.

Okay great! Wheres the cheapest place to buy these in bulk? Costco also had a filler seed with their sunflower. I have to steralize ir in the oven now so it doesnt sprout anymore.
